So now equal rights for the female royals and royals no longer barred from marrying catholics...

The catholic ban was evetually going to cause some trouble:

The really scary thing is those nuns in the photo close resemble the nuns in my catholic school...just that the nuns in the photo are not as well armed...

I wasn't aware there was still such a bias over there still. I learned something. Seems so medieval.

Not to be insulting...But does a bunch of stuffy royals even matter?(sorry) Does it hold any sway over world affairs anymore? I understand you guys like tradition...But over here it is "soccer mommy" supermarket tabloid fodder. Something to mock (no offense)

Though I can't smash King Will . He served in wartime conditions (as heir apparent) when most of our government leaders shoved their kids into college and avoided the military. (I love that guy) He was actually pissed when a newspaper blew his cover. (Great fella IMHO)

Yeah I agree with Soopaman2, Ive never been a big fan of the Royals in general, but Will seems like a decent enough bloke. Charles is okay-ish too.
Im glad we have the Royals though, if nothing else they boost our tourist industry and make great material for satire comedians. Somehow England just wouldnt be England without them.

I like your royals. None of them seem like bad folks. (Even Camilla the ugly) Even if the current queen is only 4-5 generations away from nasty old King George III. I didn't mean no insult towards the system, I just want to know if you guys in Britain ( and Europe in general) find monarchies relevant in the age of elections?

Americans culturally hate monarchies, due to how we were born.
I know how it seems to me but I am curious as to other Euro countries, who still have kings. How do they feel?

Curiousity won't kill this cat.:)

I'm a royalist, and proud of it, but I am a dying breed. Swore my duty to the Queen, her heirs and successors, and it still stands that I would.

Well in our case the Royals arent involved in political system - they have no influence on how the country is run.
so they are just harmless heritage peices really. Nobody really has anything against them for this reason.
They have a lot of cash, but most of this is tied up in assets such as are castles & land which are open to the public, Charles funds various non-profit groups and organziations around the the country, partically youth projects and anything to do with agriculture, two things close to his heart I guess.

I didnt even watch the Royal wedding - (one is terribly unpatriotic :P) hence me 'not being a fan' but at the same time I dont have anything against them either.

Good:)

I wish our elites at least gave a half a (deleted) as your elite does. Our elites are named Bank of America, WaMu, freddie Mac, Fannie mae, Exxon, BP, ConocoPhillips, Pfizer, Ciba-Geigy, Goldman sachs, GM etc.

They are even people over here...Equal rights except when being prosecuted.

Count yourselves lucky.

No offence taken but I'd wager if the US had a royal family they'd lavish a lot more coin on them than we do.

Oh we are not lucky, most of those guys^ are our elites too, (no doubt about it) The Royals have got Nothing on them in terms of wealth or power.
Goldman sachs pretty much run the world dont they? :O:

The Royals never bothered me in the least. There are a few that are tabloid news and their are others that are good people. They all put their pants on like me. I would love to talk to the Queen. I bet she has some stories!

Prince Philip certainly has :DL

To expats in Abu Dhabi last year: “Are you running away from something?”

To President of Nigeria, who was in national dress, 2003: “You look like you’re ready for bed!”

To a British trekker in Papua New Guinea, 1998: “You managed not to get eaten then?”

To Atul Patel at reception for influential Indians, 2009: “There’s a lot of your family in tonight.”

Yes. Just look at the field day all the corps had when The Supreme court Citizens United decisions gave them the same power as a voter.

We are worse in extravagance

I will not disagree.:salute:

I had to make it big in order to show how much crazier us Yanks are:D
