What Song's In Your Head?

Confession time: Almost every morning for the last 20 years or so I will wake up and before too long find myself humming (or even singing!) ABBA's "Dancing Queen." And it makes me very, very sad - as in "please kill me" sad. (Of course, this affliction amuses my children to no end, who will gleefully torture me with a few bars of the song at every opportunity.)

One of the few things* I've found that's effective in ending my brain's morning diggin' of that dancing, jiving, seventeen year-old is the theme song from "The Flintstones." You know, the the modern stone age family, from the town of Bedrock. They're a page right out of history!

Unfortunately, for some period thereafter, my brain will take off riding with the family down the street, through the courtesy of Fred's two feet. But at least it's no longer leering at that teasing, tambourine-playing jail bail.

Please tell me that I'm not alone. Better yet, tell me what aggravating tune plays in your head, and what y'all do to banish the evil siren when suicide really isn't a good option.

*I won't dare say the name of other one, but it begins "Come and listen to a story 'bout a man named Jed..." God help me.

I don't think I have a repetitive song day-to-day, but the wife and I have a song for certain situations or phrases that are spoken, like -

If someone mentions almonds, we'll break into Peter Cetera's Glory of Love - "I am a man, who would fight for your almonds" (It's what the wife used to think the lyrics were).

If something needs pushing it'll be Salt-n-Pepa's Push It.

Others fail me at the moment, but I'll reserve this space for when I remember them!

[Reserved] :D

Just a moment ago I was reading the "Curiosity killed the cat.." thread that had a youtube link to John Lennon's Give peace a chance.

It hasn't imprinted itself yet. Pfew.

Well that's all we are saying... ;)

London Beat, You bring on the Sun. especially the fragment "the darkest hour...". Dunno why, I'm not a music fan, I don't listen to music at all but this piece stuck for good.

What song's in my head?

Well, NOW it's that one, thank you very much. :stare:

I used to say the "default" melody in my head was "Jingle Bells" because that's what always seemed to be there *if* I started absent-mindedly humming *and* there was no other recently heard or thought of tune to take its place. Now it's usually a theme from some classical piece or other.

When I had a coworker here in my office/dept (who also ended up being, and still is, one of my best friends ever) I used to do a funny little thing... the copier was on her side of the office, right behind her desk. So whenever I would walk over there to make copies I'd absent-mindedly-but-totally-on-purpose hum some tune that was 1) catchy, 2) almost universally recognizable, but 3) not something she'd be likely to hear during a normal day and therefore "pick up" unconsciously.

The payoff would come later that day when she'd suddenly look up and say "WTF I've got 'Chattanooga Choo-Choo' stuck in my head and I can't get it out!"

*sigh* Good times.

Helter Skelter.

Lately it has been multiple songs from the Music Man. Auditions are in November.

Back in the stone ages, while standing topside watch in port, it was Tutti Frutti. Almost every time.
