Hull Integrity

I returned from a patrol down the US east coast where I got attacked by several aircraft. I started to head back after particularly heavy mauling. I thought I had about 60-70% hull integrity (I have it hidden) and was regularly diving to 50m to avoid aircraft and storms. I got back to find I only had 32% hull integrity, which to say the least surprised me. Dread to think how close I was to imploding.

So the questions are.....
what is the lowest HI you have returned with?
what depth were you diving to?
and if you have HI hidden....
what HI did you estiamte you had?
what depth would you have gone to if you had known the true value?

In the early days I had my HI viewable and it was once down to 5% so I returned to base surfaced, only daring to go to PD if aircraft were detected.

I feel like there might have been some cue when the hull was stressing under pressure. It's rather unfair, after having invested lots of hours in a career, to have the game suddenly cut-out. Even with hull integrity displayed, it's practically impossible to know how it's going to affect crush depth (unless you know the algorithm for that).

Just over 8%, and I crossed the entire Atlantic surfaced.

I knew I had been hammered, but didn't know it was that bad.

3% with an IXD2 and reached Penang
That was an one time patrol.

15 percent after hitting a mine. Luckily, I was near a supply ship and was able to limp over that way.

I'm running GWX and I don't see the hull integrity anyplace.

What's the path to the file that controls it, and what changes do I need to make to get it back?

If you use SH3 Commander, where you can select it to be displayed or not, :yep:

The lowest i returned with was 3% after being attacked by two Sunderland planes and a few Hurricans (near the british coast) while i was attacking a lone traveler with my deck gun.

I used to play with it off, but realized that only an incompetent Chief Engineer wouldn't be able to tell me that we had been hurt bad, and shouldn't dive too deep. Now he wouldn't be so exacting as the percentage they give you, but as there's no alternative, no middle ground, I've begun to leave it on.

The lowest I have recorded in the patrol reports is 38.10%, back from when I was learning to play.

Sounds sensible to me. I don't see how this causes irreparable harm to the notion of 'realism' or gives the player some untoward advantage.

As you say, the CE would have a general idea in this regard, so perhaps the best solution would be to randomize the display (within a certain percentage) to simulate 'actual' conditions. :yep:

If you want to know what your HI is simply set the parameters in Commander :arrgh!:

Raptor 10-21-11 04:17 PM

I'm not using Commander - only GWX Gold.

Then you'll never know until you return to base :03:

Actually there is.

Then you don't know how much you're missing. SH3 Commander expands the game in ways you can't imagine.
