I remember reading once about a guy who replied to these things agreeing to help with their plight, but also that he was wary and had heard of people being conned out of money, so could they prove their worth by sending a token amount (something like $1) to him.
Some did, some didn't. Needless to say he didn't continue assisting them. :D I've just had a quick check on snopes, and it's doesn't appear to be there, so must be true. :hmmm: |

hehe, we have a term on another forum when a user posts a picture claiming to be their new car/house/computer/girlfriend etc "Hovis, or it didn't happen" - the user has to pose with a loaf of hovis bread to prove legitimacy.... in one case it let to a member taking a photo of himself with only a loaf of bread covering his private parts, I forget why, but it became an epic thread with much amusement had by all, eventually someone went a bit too far and the thread was locked.
