Kiel Canal Blues...

I was wondering if anyone else has this many problems navigating the Keil Canal...
I have died three times from running aground in the ditch, and all of them were avoidable! If I didn't like my watch officer, I would have him shot for sure...
Two times were on the same sandbar!

I'm using NYGM 3.5 with MaGuiF, and I am having trouble finding the right spot to put the first waypoint for an "automatic" transit. Any ideas or updates?

I never do an 'automatic'. I lay my own waypoints, take my time and enjoy the view. Which is not to say I do it in real time. I usually run at 128x.

This, I zoom in and try to stay dead center.

It is a habit I picked up from SH4 and always running aground on tiny islands and all the shallow mess on them infernal volcanic produced islands.

Yes stupidity is only stupidity if one does not learn from it.:salute:

I skip over the canal completely. A few days longer to get to sea? Oh well.

I was going to explain the 'automatic waypoint' from GWX then realised you use NYGM.....manual inputs whilst zoomed in is possibly your only option.

I try not to use Kiel, and if I do I don't use the canal. I think I've used it a handful of times but always regret it.

Wilhelmshaven FTW. :yeah:

With the "Start at Sea" mod enabled, using the GWX automatic route for the Kiel Canal runs me aground and destroys my boat everyime. :damn:

I always plot the course manually, regardless of what I am, and right now I'm in the red sea ... towards the Indian Ocean, :know:

As an aside, has anyone tried to destroy those bridges on the canal, with torpedoes? Just curious... :arrgh!:

Forget it, it does not work.

Could you explain, and possibly point out where that function lives, that i might use it to my own nefarious ends?

The terrain is classed as an environmental and therefore is not equipped with a damage model and is therefore indestructible...light ships are the same.
