flak gun accuracy

how can i improve my flak gunners accuracy? In all the time ive been playing sh3, ive only ever shot down one a/c.

I am reading patrol reports from some kaluens who seem to down more than one each patrol.

I have also tried manning it myself but cldnt hit nuffink either....

Yet on the deck gun im the opposite...bleedin deadly!

HELP!

Only take on aircraft when (1) your watch crew doesn't see them in time to dive or (2) your boat is mechanically or structurally unable to dive. Otherwise, GET IN THE CELLAR FAST.

I know only one way to improve your flak guns' accuracy; the presence of a qualified flak gunner.

The easiest way to accomplish this is to triple qualify your bridge Watch Officer as a watchman (0), gunner (1), and flak gunner (2). This covers three stations at once. You can do this quickly and manually by opening the career file for your Player's name/crew_career_(number of last patrol).cfg file and adding the desired lines to the first crew member. By default, this is always the bridge watch officer. I give my Weapons Officer (1WO) the same 3 qualifications, in case my watch officer gets killed.

Name=Heino Baumann
Index=9
NrComp=0
Type=2
Grad=8
Renown=500.000000
Patrols=8
Morale=1.000000
Fatigue=0.000000
HealthStatus=0
WasWounded=No
HitPoints=15.000000
Experience=800.750000
Rank=8
NrQual=3 <= increase to maximum of 3
Qualification0=0
<= watchman
Qualification1=1 <= gunner
Qualification2=2 <= flak gunner

The other way is to have at least one flak gun-qualified (Qualification0=2) Petty Officer in the forward crew quarters, ready at all times to man the flak gun. Optional, and slightly better, is to have one per flak gun emplacement. The most you'll need is three - unless you have a late war U-Flak turm configuration, then you could have 4 (with 2 twin 20mm on the wintergarten. Personally, I carry 3 quad-20mms in that configuration.

...its hit 'n' miss im afraid.

I prefer 2cm flak to 3.7cm for this reason - more shots in the sky = a higher chance to hit.

But a hundred meters of water is always preferable...

And then when you're done that, practice some more... :03:

(you could always try the U-flak - get a u-boat in 1943 and put a 3.7cm flak and 2 quad 20mm flak on, but expect to be sunk)

U-flak is okay, right up to the point when a Sunderland Flying boat appears and blinds your crew with its Leigh light:doh:
