The one that got away...
No contacts for the first two weeks of patrol in the mid atlantic. Finally cleared to move at my discretion.
Sitting NW of Aberdeen, just off the shelf, I miss a convoy. Couldn't move faster than the 10 knots speed of the convoy due to sea state. I regroup and hear a single merchant moving at high speed. An hour later, I sink a 10,000 ton troop ship! Six hours later, I hear another high speed merchant. Move into position and wait. Raise the TC, and the phone rings. The contact shoots right past me and is 2200 meters away before I hit pause. A quick check of the scope to see what I just missed... 44,000 tonne HMT Aquitania moving at 24 knots. :damn::damn::damn: http://www.google.com/url?source=img...xyRWs8V5s_nHng |

It was my wife. She's always worth it. :shucks:
I was pissed, but only at myself for not hitting pause before I picked up the phone. First time I've ever seen the Aquitania too. :wah: |
That'll larn ya....take the phone off the hook or purchase a head set :DL

ya people call me, I never hear. Gotta love headsets + gramaphone. If I go into the US navy when im out of college, and go for to be on a submarine, I would be the nerd using the gramaphone instead of a ipod, and when they ordered a change of speed JAWOHL HERR KALEUN! or for a crash dive. ALARM!!!!!!!!!! RING RING RING RING! lol

I did USN submarines, it's pretty fun!
Don't go into the "nuclear power" program (they'll offer you money, but it's not worth it, trust me) It's a real nice gig, and the pay doesn't suck :D Keep it real, yo! "submarines once, ..." |
Whats wrong with the nucual power program? anyway I would probleby go for sonar.
