GWX 3.0 flotilla to US east coast?

Which flotilla, in GWX gold, would be most likely to send type IX and type VIIC/41 boats to the North American east coast? I've read the GWX 3.0 manual but haven't really found a definitive answer. I could have sworn that, in a previous SH3 existance, that I had this info, in some form, that gave you an idea of where most flotillas deployed their ships to...but it's been many moons. If anyone has any info on where flotillas operated it would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If you use SH3 Commander you can assign yourself your own grids, as well as check Flotillas for u-boat types before starting a career.

According to Wikipedia the first five boats sent to the US East Coast were U-123, U-130, U-66, U-109, and U-125, and according to uboat.net these boats were all assigned to the 2nd Flotilla which operated out of Lorient at the time and did include a variety of Type IX boats. Don't know if GWX mirrors that or not, and obviously as operations in the eastern Atlantic continued and expanded there were more boats and probably other flotillas involved.

At any rate, you don't get renown in GWX for patrolling your assigned grid, so as long as you've got a boat that can get you there and back, there's no reason not to go if that's what you want to do. If you're a stickler for the realism of following your orders I would suggest using Commander as Steve suggests and selecting whatever patrol grid you want.

Not sure about the stickler part :03:, but that's what I do. It's kind of nice actually, as I get to run BdU as well as my own boat. Can you say power trip? :D :O:

The 2.Flottille is the one you want. In GWX 3.0 it is the flottille that uses the type IX u-boat that can reach the U.S. East coast.

Thank you! After all these years, in various SH3 lives, I seem to have missed the part about SH3Commander and setting assigned grid.

I have WB's "GWX renown replacement" mod installed (I need all the renown help I can get!) so assigning, and getting to, a patrol area counts. Gotta pay for that type IX, you know?

Thanks gang.

Oh, I put the renown back in for that stuff too, so I hear you.

Usually all I do with Commander is check which grid I'm getting next and then I change it if I don't like it for some specific reason. Otherwise I stick with what I'm given. But no skulking around the coastal shallows for me when I'm in a Type VII, thank you very much. BdU can save that stuff for the Type IIs. :haha:

I hear you loud and clear, Frau Kaleun.

I hardly ever use renown for anything. I don't buy boats, I run separate careers, on in each type. :sunny:

I guess the manual I quoted was wrong.

June 1942, I'm in Lorient, in the 2nd Flotilla, and as of this date have yet to be assigned a patrol off the east coast of America.

I have finished my regular patrol area and gone to the BB area and the areas below, but have not yet been assigned a patrol grid ther from BDu.

Better delete my manual quote.
