Somali pirate gets life in jail!
 

A Somali man has been sentenced to life in a US prison for his role in the deadly hijacking of a yacht off the coast of Africa in February this year.

Muhidin Salad Omar is the third pirate to be sentenced at a federal court in Norfolk, Virginia, to a life in jail over the incident.

He was part of a gang that seized a yacht with four Americans on board south of Oman, then killed them all.

A fourth man was due to be sentenced later on Monday.

Two of Omar's accomplices were sentenced to life in prison in August.

Three others are charged with murder and could receive the death penalty.

The yacht was boarded by 19 men who planned to bring the Americans to Somalia so they could be ransomed, but the plot fell apart when US Navy warships appeared.

Omar, the driver of the pirate vessel, was one of two men who came aboard a US Navy ship to negotiate.

Navy officials told the pirates that they could take the yacht, the Quest, in exchange for the hostages.

According to court documents, they refused and said that the hostages were more valuable.

I was really kinda hoping for a "walk the plank" kinda punishment.

Bad choice....should have taken the yacht and hopefully the US warship would have blown it out of the water once the hostages were safe.

Problem with U.S. Navy doing this is that there would be witnesses to whitleblow this to media. I would just find out if there is Russian destroyer around and ask if they could "check" that "suspected pirate vessel"... :DL

So they give the guy 3 squares a day, a bed, and while not a comfortable life, one that's alot better than the one he's coming from. Yep, that's justice...

That's another possible solution :DL

They should have made him an American Citizen. Then Obama could have ordered his death by missile attack saving the US all the expense of housing and feeding him for the rest of his life. Could have saved all the money for a fair trial as well.

They deserve to sit, justice will catch up.

Especially if he's placed in main line or double cellin' with someone named Bubba.

A hellfire antiground missile costs 68,000 USD each. Way cheaper, great idea. Way cheaper than 25k+ a year in a penal institution (since we are getting to wimpy to execute now)

But our CIA has been using strikes from predator drones in Pakistan and Afghanistan for years (against non citizens). Under Bush as well, so it's not an Obama thing. (in all fairness he did escalate predator drone attacks after he took over)

Partisanship is killing the USA, don't feed into it.:sunny:
