destroyers sinking them selves

ever had a situation where a destroyer depth charges you at perisocpe depth and youu recive minimal damage but then you see the destroyer burst into flames and then you here "she's going down!!" and she apeers to have blown her self up with her own depth charges?

Not to me personally IRC but I know this to happen from time to time in such conditions.

Stock SH3 bug. Usually it was flower class corvette which used to blow his arse with it's own depth charge :haha:

GWX minimized this event to almost nill AFAIK. :yeah:

I remember on our fourth patrol we stumbled on a convoy in a storm and one of the escorts depth charged us at periscope depth damaging the upper works of the sub. then I heard my crew cheering like they do when a torpedo hits or we sink a ship and I though why are the doing that.? then I looked in free cam mode to see the destroyer engulfed in flames blazing like a funeral pier. we surface and proceded to make quick work of a tramp steamer, small merchant, and Nipiwan Park-type Tanker before deciding to cut our losses and split. We're no sure what class of destroyer it was as SH3Commander didn't list it as a kill(it listed that we sunk a flower corvet but we sank that with our deckgun in the same convoy). though if I remember corectally it had a squarish stern I think.

I ran into a group, if I remember right, of four destroyers. Two of them ran in circles and dropped charges simultaneusly over our position, After several drops a third destroyer got into the act and sailed right into the target area.

Agout twenty depth charges blew the third destroyer right out of the water. :har::har::har::har:

I recall when I went harbor raiding, I noticed a destroyer chasing me, ran himself aground in tight quarters, and giving me credit for sinking it...

I did hit it a few times with the deckgun (enough to tick it off, but not to sink it), I dunno why else I would get credit for AI stupidity.

If I was a destroyer in SH3, I'd want to commit suicide too. Stupid jerks.

I don't know if anybody else has experienced this, but after about June of 42, when you are given the opportunity to get the Bold 1 decoys, I have been stalked by destroyers while trying to sneak up on a convoy.

A destroyer will come to within 400 meters of the rear of my boat, and I release decoys. The destroyer will already be in an attack run.

The decoy will stop them in their tracks. In fact, I have seen them do a full reverse and run over where they just dropped dc's and sink themselves that way.

Once, skulking around in Scapa Flow, a destroyer ran aground and sank whilst searching for me.

Then another destroyer came along to check out what happened. She ran aground and sank as well.

Many times in my harbor raids, I would see all these little grey "Ship Sunk" icons appear on the map. They turned out to be a healthy combination of destroyers, corvettes, trawlers and torpedo boats all run aground looking for me :DL

WWII44 10-05-11 09:14 PM

can destroyers also sink them selve while trying to ram a submerged sub?

its about 12-27-41 and i was very near newyork running on the surface in bad weather and shalow water when a DE comes out of nowhere and starts shelling me, i dive, as im diving i take more hits, and get the damage control under control, then i hear a bad scraping sound, like a colision, and my sub rocks back and forth, i think, " oh no, ive been ramed" then and explosin and the crew chears, i up scope to find the DE burning and sinking about 400m away, blew my mind.
