Destroyed due to impact...

Twice now I've gotten this message while submerged during depth charge attacks. Does this mean the depth charges got me or I hit something on the bottom? Are the messages the same for either?

I've not had that yet as I've just returned to SH3 (it'll happen soon enough though!), but next time, whilst you're being hunted (or even better prior to diving deeper after launching torpedoes) check the depth under you're keel - then you'll be in no doubt and can concentrate on the escorts and depth charges.

Sharkbait24 10-02-11 08:42 AM

I'm usually a little hesitant about using depth under keel, because the active sonar is like a magnet for DDs.

Nerazzurri 10-02-11 10:47 AM

Yeah, it can be. I suppose I should've been more specific :yep:

Best used when you're on the opposite side of merchants from any escorts or when you're in their wake. I suppose if they're pinging you hard there's no harm in using it either.

Use it as much as you like. Escorts won't hear it. It's in the game.
Besides map is far too inaccurate to check depth.

Right, in the game escorts are deaf to the fathometer ping.

Are there live mines in the game?

Pisces 10-02-11 04:14 PM

There are minefields in GWX at least. I never checked stock campaign files.

Lots of them in GWX, especially around Helgoland and the east coast of Britain. :o

Can anyone answer the questions? lol

This usually means that you hit mines. I can't recall any other time that I got that message, except after hitting mines.

Where are you in the campaign? It can be either a depth charge or a Hedgehog bomb.

Der Kuenstler 10-02-11 09:58 PM

So there's no map in gwx to tell you approximately where the mines are so you can avoid them? They are all along the coast and you just randomly run into them and sink? :stare:

I'm in about May of 1940. I thought I had about 50 meters to spare last bottom sounding I did, and the depth charges seemed pretty far away (not rocking the boat) then all of the sudden my men started turning red and I got the message and died before I could do anything.

I would say that you struck a mine. 50 meters and May of 1940...you wouldn't by chance, be in or near the English Channel or near Scapa Flow would you?
