bin files
 

After several years away from SH3 i just reinstalled it. Played vanilla a couple times, now I want to install gray wolves. I downloaded 7 files and a exe file to a folder on my desk top but when I try and run the exe it ask's for 'disk 7'. My 'puter also says it cant open a bin file. Any help for a novice mod installer?

Sounds like a corrupted file. If you downloaded from the grey wolves web site, it has been reported that one of the .bin files is corrupted. The best site for downloading GWX is jimbuna's. The link to it is in his signature.

Hmm..I get a files are missing error message on the site, i'll play stock or try later.

Go to Grey wolves site and follow the link. Worked for me and I had to do it a couple of times - because of my own fault though. lol

Got the torrent file to download and almost run. I uninstalled the game and and reinstalled via Steam. GW wont load because it says I have a modded file. I Don't, I even uninstalled Commander, what else might I have missed? Is Steam an issue? I dont have the CD anymore.

Usually this is the result of leftover registry entries. Try getting a good cleaner and removing any orphan keys before reinstalling. :sunny:

Where do I find saved games on Vista? need to make sure they are gone also correct?

Saves should be in the 'My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\Careers\[Player Name]\[Save Name] folder. :sunny:

Again since many miss this in ALL the Steam related posts.

GWX will install to a Steam version if you do ONE SIMPLE THING!!

Pay attention to the install screens.
When it ASKS where do you want it installed?
USE THE BROWSE BUTTON!!!
You MUST point the installer to the Steam location where SH3 is installed!!

It will work flawlessly then.

Steam was not an Issue at the time the Installer was written.
Maybe I need to write a new version to avoid this issue?

Dunno if you do or not but I had read that and even when I do that one simple thing, I still get the same error message. There is something else in the files GW don't like and I can't find it.

Not 100% sure what I did but its running, now I just have to rememebr how to get the old map updates back.
