A few questions for SH5 vets.
First of I would like to say that this is the first silent hunter game I have played and I love it, especially the modding community you guys are great.
Anyway I have read a book wrote by Hans Goebler about his service onboard U-505 its a great read and I would strongly advice reading it. The book ranges from 1941 to 1944 when the boat was captured. Seeing as have never completed the first campaign although I intend to do so now, I have only ever used the early war stuff. I have been wondering what kind of new toys are available in the later campaigns. Things like the ship seeking torpedoes (that I cant find any where on the internet and think I have just made up) and the snorkel device. Also when do more torpedo types become available at the moment it seems as if I have a choice between my torpedo being spotted or having to fire from 3k away. Yet another question for seasoned players, what is generally the best depth for firing your torpedoes at. I assume the best depth varies between merchant ships and aircraft carries but at the moment with my electrics I am firing them as close to the surface as possible. Can anyone recommend any books that have been wrote by anyone that served during the battle of the Atlantic. I can only recommend Steel Boats Iron Hearts at the moment. |

I have read alot of uboat books. My favorite one was Iron Coffins.
As far as torpedo dept; I set my torps 1 meter from ships keel depth. If weather is rough I run the torpedo a bit shallower. I do know snorkel is available if you use TDWs UI mod. Not sure about torpedoes since I am only in 41. I did access to a new electric torpedo not to long ago though. |
