Sudden Sound Problem
Hi guys, after over a year of nearly trouble free simming on my new Windows7 rig, today I suddenly lost my AA guns sounds:wah: The Deck gun sound plays, but the AA weather it be .50cal, or 20mm remains silent for no apparent reason. I tried updating my X-fi drivers for no joy. Can't understand why the sudden loss. No addition of new mods recently, just the same list. Any suggestions?:hmmm:

First off, do you have a surround sound set up (or 5.1 speaker system)? If so, since you've mentioned updating your drivers, I would check to make sure your new drivers haven't installed new HD sound drivers as well. Seems, with NVIDIA anyway, that updating the GPU drivers also installs new HD sound drivers, and then makes the new ones the default drivers. Anyhow, check your sound configuration to make sure it hasn't changed.
:salute: |
My setup seems to still be in order. I use headphones instead of speakers. The sound problem is what prompted me to update my drivers. I'll keep plugging at it.

I found the file in the Sound Folder called "Light AA gun". The sound plays just fine in Windows Media Player. Still can't figure why it's silent all of a sudden in game.:hmmm:

No clues? This seems to be the only missing sound:hmmm: Could anyone give me an idea on where to start looking? Any help appreciated:yep: Thanks guys.

Are you running any AA Gun or sound add-ons/mods? BTW, is this TMO, RFB or stock? RSRDC?
|
Thanks Wernher. I didn't add any sound mods. I'm running RFB and RSRD. I rechecked my X-fi control panel, and everything looks OK. As I mentioned, it seems all other sounds play just fine, including the Deck Gun. I have the sound file named: P30_$ Light AA Gun which when I open it plays just fine with Windows Media Player. This is the sound for both the .50cal and the 20mm, and I think the 40mm as well.
When I personally man the AA gun, the gun fires with no sound. This is truly baffeling:hmmm: |
OK, here's the deal. Bottom line, the issue seemingly has been resolved:DL Since getting my rig about a year ago, I had tried to install the EAX sound mod. I loved it on my old machine, and was looking forwards to useing it on the new. I installed it, and had some probs with some of the sounds, one of which was...... You guessed it, the AA gun not being audible. I disabled the mod and all the sounds were OK again.
After my current problem arose, and after wracking my brains out, I realised my X-fi Control Panel has an option to enable EAX effects. I'm thinking haveing this option enabled mucked up the EAX sound mod somehow. To test my idea, I re-downloaded the EAX mod and installed the RFB 2.0 compatable file. Snooping in the sounds samples I noticed there are more AA gun files than I have in my plain RFB files. Again, possible mucking of the files? Anyway, after activating the new EAX mod via JSGME, I disabled the EAX option in the X-fi control panel, and lo and behold everything is back! I'm not questioning the hows or whys, I'm just grateful to be back to normal:yep: |
Glad you got it all ironed out, Fish.:yeah: Sorry I wasn't more of a helping hand.

Not a problem Wernher. I appreciate any help I can get!:yep: Thanks again.
