Reporting ABoard
P 230900Z Aug 11
From: NEWGUY To: NERK Subject: Reporting aboard for duty My (real) name is J.F. (Jack) Leahy, and I’ve written a few books for the U.S. Naval Institute over the years. You’re welcome to google me (J.F. Leahy), or visit www.navalwritersgroup.us for some more information, if you like. I’m presently researching a fifth book – this one dealing with the period between September 1939 and December 7th 1941, when, for much of the time, the United States was actively involved in what was euphemistically called “Armed Neutrality” in the North Atlantic. (Those involved has a much more colorful name for it, believe me!) The book, though, focuses on the cooperation – shaky as it may have been at first – among Britain, Canada and the U.S. as things began to be sorted out. During that research, I’ve come across numerous references to this forum, and am astounded at the tremendous interest, knowledge and understanding which I’ve see among the participants. I hope you don’t mind if I “pick your brains” from time to time. I’m not very good at gaming, unfortunately – a function of age, no doubt – but I was involved in ASW during the period 1966-1970, mostly in the Atlantic, as a Navy Radioman. If I can be of any help to anyone, please don’t hesitate to ask. And – if it’s appropriate to have a “persona” to fit in – well......how about Sparks, the elderly but kindly Radioman on the corvette HMS Pillsbury – no doubt a “Flour” class escort laid down at the obscure ship yards of Retching-Under-Water? Pass me that bucket, shipmates, would you? I think we’re ready to cast off lines... nnnn Spark |
Didn't you post 15 minutes earlier here? :DL
No prob....I'll vsit that site you were kind enough to post a link to :sunny: |
That double post....
Hello COB:
Yep, that was me. I had cut 'n pasted from a .doc file, and then noticed, to my dismay, that it didn't pick up the punctuation correctly. I deleted it, and then recast it as a .txt to cut and paste. It wanted at least three words left in the original, hence the mini-post. I'll get this figured out sooner or later. Sparks |
No problem, I was simply doubting my own memory for a moment

You're welcome!
I'd say something else in Morse but unless I'm attacked by a submarine or otherwise find my ship in mortal peril, I'm afraid I've reached my limit and I"m not googling it again. :O: |
