Missions for RA/DWX?
Can someone recommend a good resource for custom DWX/RA missions??
cheers |
AFAIK, there are none currently.

This is the main reason that I play with the LWAMI mod. There's a LOT more compatible scenarios for it.
|
Check subsim's download page, I uploaded my DWX scenarios.
And please do create and share yours too DWX is loathed partly because it is made by Russian community I'd think so. Thus the usual scenario makers aren't forthcoming in making scenarios for it. Frankly DWX is the most comprehensive mod for DW at the moment. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...p?do=cat&id=38 It would be a shame turning down DWX simply because there's lack of scenarios with it. Quite the contrary. All LWAMI and for stock scenarios are compatible with DWX I'd think so. And start to create your own and share them. Otherwise how things are going to change. |

A few years ago I've unshelved DW, in order to try LWAMI mod; I've enjoyed it for a few weeks, but it wasnt enough to avoid re-shelfing it once again. Now this RA/DWX opens up a whole new possibilities and I'm totally happy they disagree with sonalysts by making new playable ships, when by obeying sonalyst's rule all we got after all these waiting years is DARPA..pff I hope RA/DWX brings some other non-usual ships and boats like FREMMs, Horizons and Scorpenes also. One other suggestion is to create grenade like depth charges just like those used late '50 and early '60, before the nuclear submarine era, and its associated doctrine, where surface ships chased and saturated detected ssks and forced them to the surface after several days playing the blind man's bluff! Regarding Mission Editing, well, I'm still in kindergarten at it; I'm reading its manual but I wish there was another easier way like for example wikis, editing tutorials or guides, with clear examples of each and every function. That would help immensily people like me, with basic knowledge but willing to do something! I remember back in the days and it was always because of this frustating trial and error mission editing where nothing really works as planned, that made me quit playing for a while: A while until forgeting or forgiving that fact! BTW, It was a surprise, a good one when I could finally try RA/DWX mod. Great job! |
You must have meant ASW rockets.
I believe DW has them. You need to get close to surface warships that are equipped with them and get detected for them to start launching their ASW rockets. If you want to test it feel free to play my As advertised (Korea) DWX scenario. There's big chance the AI will use their ASW rockets. |
ASW rocket I understand to be for example ASROCs. What I really meant were small sized depth charges created to use against SSKs during peace time. There were not meant to cause damage to the targeted submarine, but instead, to force it to stay submerged and then surface in defeat. Just like those foxtrots forced to the surface during the Cuban Crisis, or those early northern runs Cochino's style.

I don't think they are in game. ASW rockets basically are also small depth charges or small underwater bombs with rocket propellent as their launcher. They only do minor damage [in game] in a single hit though it is likely to be hit by several of those if you get hit by one. Just saying :) |
Thanks Castout, I think I'd made myself misundersood, and btw, I think the small depth charges was a silly idea by my part anyway, otherwise DW wouldnt be a simulator, that is, to simulate the what ifs, so we dont need to use warning shots when our intention IS to start WW3 (virtual ofcourse!)

Sounds to me what is being discussed is the concept of PDCs (aka Practice Depth Charges) which were used in ASW wargames in the 50s-60s from ASW aircraft and in the missile crisis to force subs to surface without technically "engaging" them. They are much smaller charges than war shot depth charges like those which were used as OTS weapons on frigates, destroyers, etc; ie similar to the charges rolled (deployed) by USS Ward to sink the midget Japanese submarine just outside Pearl prior to the air raid on 7 December 1941.
Funny story - My grandfather was a naval aviator in VF 154 "The Black Knights" flying FJ-3s (Navy version of F-86 Sabre) and later F-8 Crusaders during his active service out of Moffet NAS and off CV 10 (Later CVA 10 then CVS 10). When he entered reserves he started ASW patrols on S2F ASW platforms. He was involved in tracking the Soviet subs transiting to/from Cuba during the crisis (LCDR at this time), but the funny part is this. A few weeks prior to being assigned to Cuba blockade ASW patrol, as part of a wargame with US subs they were using PDCs to simulate engagements. If the sub skipper detected a sonar transient within a certain distance they were to fire an empty torp tube to cause bubbles to rise indicating a hit. This hardly ever happened, so one day his crew and himself decided to release the entire salvo of PDCs directly on a "sinker" (sub scope going under). They hit within 10 meters and cause minor damage to the sub sail. The sub skip was so pissed he took it up the chain as far as he could to try to get a flight violation recorded (it wasn't). After that, any time a PDC was remotely close, the war game subs were very liberal in releasing bubbles indicating hits for fear of another pilot dropping an entire PDC salvo on their head.... Lol I love that story... :haha: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...4_insignia.png VF-154 Insignia (Current) |
