Framedrops and Flickering
Hi everyone!
This is only a thread to cry for help... :( I have managed to get some decent framerates out of SH5 (by disabling shadows, playing with mods up and down)... Some of you may have seen the one or the other problem I faced here in the forum... But whatever I do, I cannot get rid of those flickering textures (they do not show all the time but often enough to drive me crazy) and a stutter every now and then. This is: I am on the bridge and everything is fine (40-60 fps) and then everything stopps for about 2-5 seconds maybe 2-3 times a minute and then just runs on again. It is not stuttering in the sense of the word... it is like another software would kick in and block all CPU for 2 seconds and then SH5 starts up again (I have checked for running processes, but there is nothing... I even stopped a number of services with TurboMode of TuneUp-Utilities). This happenes without any visible reason, even without any mouse movement or action... Sometimes I disable a mod and it seems the problem is gone... I am happy and with the next start of the game the problem is back... Yesterday I thought I was sure to have pinned down the flickering to the subflags mod (as in the boat things stopped flickering when the boat was diving). But on the next run, subflags disabled, it was flickering again... I have the feeling that I really can not do anything with a solid result. It has the feeling of pure luck... If I could solve these two things, I think I could really enjoy the game finally. I may just ignore the ugly seabed or the ugly sunrays shining right through my boat under water and many other things... but this flickering causes headaces and the stuttering is just major annyoing. I am thinking of uninstalling SH5 and return to SH3 because of that but SH5 looks so much better (in certain aspects). Anyone else having these problems or a solution for them? Meldric |
If your framerate is struggling, do you use D3D antilag? It'll help a lot if you don't:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=2871 Flickering textures sounds like you're using Magnum Opus - the texture flickering is a result of the free-camera mod included in that (or you could be using the Free Cam Tweak on its own). The only way to prevent it occurring is to revert back to the default cameras.cams file. More info (and the default cam file) can be found here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...postcount=1644 As for the stuttering... it depends. If you're not using Antilag then that might solve it. If you're using FX Update, and you get the stutter when you attack ships, it could be the emergency flares that some ships fire off when attacked. You can edit the zones.cfg file to remove them - I did it to reduce the stutter as well. More info & instructions here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...&postcount=747 If the seabed/waves/environment is ugly, get Dynamic Environment: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=182377 :salute: |
Hi!
I was using antilag before, but I now changed the number of pre-rendered frames from 1 to 2 and I used your camera tip. Both brought me to incredible 80 (sometimes more than 100) fps, even though I maxed every setting now (but shadows). I can't really believe this yet. I will have to do some further testing, but if this persists... INCREDIBLE! I now check out dynamic environment! :) |

Sober's Smaller Water Drops works well with these mods too. By the time you finish with Dynamic Env it'll be a whole different game :D I also recommend KapitanZurSee's 'Hull Wetness for Uboats' as the icing on the cake: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=185834 ....and, if you're still using the stock campaign, don't forget to check out the awesome Open Horizons II. Good hunting! :salute: |
Hi!
I'll try immediatly (I am really excited by this boost in fps! Close to really nerveous! :) ) Where do you think to enable the dynamic env to (install order I mean). I'd put them on the end of your list in the order I put them in the last post. :)
Oh, just noticed - D3D antilag shouldn't go in JSGME - you just drop the two files into your SH5 folder and overwrite any conflicts. That said it seems to be working for you, so probably no need to change it! |
Thx!
Oh, AntiLag can go into the ModEnabler very well. You just have to get the folder structure right, but anything else is no problem. Just put the files into the root of the folder "AntiLag" in the MODS folder and activate it. Works perfectly... :) Thanks for the order! |

Hehe, never knew that :O: Learn something new every day :D |
This is completly, completly incredible!
It looks awesome and it runs with 80 fps+ steady. This definitly saved SH5 for me! Thank you! |

Hi!
By the way, flickering is gone with the new camera file. Great! And the wet mod for the boat looks awesome. Actually, I now have even enough frames to re-visit TDWs FX mod :) I think for the frames the renderahead value did the trick. It seems to be logical that it gets slow if I limit the GPU to only 1 frame. I now sometimes see more than 100 frames with much better looks. Thanks again! What is not gone is the stuttering now and then. It feels like loading textures or something (I have an SSD-Drive). But that is actually not that bad, because it is gone much faster now (I mean, the breaks are shorter). I still wonder what is causing this, though... |
Try this and enable last

Thank you, I'll give it a shot tonight (when I am back at my gaming pc). Although I have to say that I already have smaller waterdrops... Maybe your mod was already included in one of the other mods I use...
But I'll try anyway. Probably it was an older version. Thanks! |

If you want to get rid of the bow spray to increase fps go to
C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Shaders\Particles Comment out the folder to read ;Particles |
