A SERVICE IS UNAVAILABLE error message on fresh install

Ahoy!

Ok, weird one here... I'm running on my iMac, now, if I run from OS X using Parallels the game runs fine except for mouse tracking problems.

So I lost 5 hours of my life creating a BOOTCAMP partition and installing windows 7 x64. Once installed before d'loading any windows updates I installed SH5 and patched to 1.2.

Just tried launching it and I get the above error message on an orange bar over the ubisoft game launcher window.

I've looked online on the Ubi sites to see if there servers are down and I don't think they are.

All I've managed to find is an old post from a ubi csr that goes on and on about opening ports on your router etc..

Well I've never had to do that before, and I don't when I'm running it under parallels on OS X.

I'm only getting this error running Win7.

I've turned off my windows firewall and made sure i'm on a 'home' network... is there anything else I can do to play this damn game or is ubi just going to completely screw up my sunday plans?

Thx for the help.

You should really try opening those ports if nothing else helps.

Also: have you tried running the launcher as an administrator? This might seem odd, but Win7's UAC can be quite restrictive and this has been a solution to many minor and major problems I've had with different applications.

Thanks

I've set the ports to forward. Uninstalled and reinstalled the crappy ubi game launcher.

Still doesn't work.

I do wish this forum didn't have a moratorium on cracking this crappy DRM.

Did you try running it as an administrator?

Elphaba 07-31-11 12:06 PM

Yes, sorry I meant to add that to my previous post, yes I did, and it still didn't help. :(

Did you install the launcher from the SH5 disc or with the files downloaded via Steam? If so maybe it's some old version that suddenly stopped working/auto-updating. You could try downloading it from ubi's site: http://static3.cdn.ubi.com/orbit/lau...rInstaller.exe

Yeah, that's the same place I got it from.

Still no luck.

So after about 8 hours of copying data, installing bootcamp/windows/sh5 and it not working, I gave up and booted back into OS X to run it from Parallels, and now it won't run from there!!!

With the same error!!!

Arrggh!

How can you buy a game that you can't run!!!

3days...still nothing.

Anyone any ideas?

If I knew anything about Macs (which I don't, I'm afraid) then I'd try to help. I guess most here are running SH5 on Windoze machines and that's why it's taking a little longer.

But I'm sure, with patience, someone will be able to help! Just give it time :) :salute:

Thanks for your thoughts, but it's not a Mac issue - when running bootcamp - it's a PC.

However I got it working last night.

I removed all the rules from the router. Rebooted the router.

Tried again and it works!!

i.e. nothing was any different to how it was when I started on Saturday and most of Sunday.

I still hate the DRM.

Thanks to all that tried to help.

Sounds like it was an issue connecting to the Ubi servers at startup. Might be worth going over your Firewall exemptions and making sure SH5.exe is listed, if you decide you want to revert your router back to the way it was. Glad you got it fixed! :salute:
