Beer making. Not traditional home brew but at a beer factory: http://www.thebeerfactory.com.au/

Me and a few mates go select the type of beer we want to brew, get the ingredients and cook them up then leave the fermentation storage and clean up to the guys at the factory. 4-6 weeks later we turn up and bottle it while tasting a sample or two. Can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Very cool idea. Dad used to make beer years ago-though now he really would not be able to lift the huge jug. I do recall my uncle telling me about a u-brew place in Hamilton Ontario they used to brew at similar to what you did at the factory TarJack. Mighty fine stuff on both cases and you know exactly what goes into it. :()1:

My father used to home brew too and I helped both make and drink it. The biggest problem was the smell whilst the brew was cooking and all the cleaning up afterwards. Now that stays at the factory. FTW!

Nice. What size batches are you brewing?

About 50L a brew. We got about 140 375ml bottles out of the last brew so it was around 52L. It's a lot cheaper than buying retail beer, even at the premium end of $192 per brew. I Australia you would pay around $6.60 per litre, for retail premuim hand crafted beers.

This way we pay around $3.60 per litre, for very similar quality beers. Splitting it 4 ways means we can brew pretty regularly without breaking the bank and get a variety in the brews we make and drink.

I've only ever made wine but Kratos makes a mean brew when he's in the mood.

I wonder if this beer factory idea has ever been tried in the UK? :hmmm:

We bottled some Uncle Toby's Canadian Brown Ale yesterday. Quite a nice drop and only 7.3% Alc/Vol.:yeah: Had half a dozen of them this afternoon and am feeling well lubricated.

I recall that day. I think I introduced you guys to Coopers Sparkling Ale while we were there as well and got Jeff a taste for Paulaner Pils.

If you move quick it could be a good little earner for you if you can get it up and runnign cheap enough.;)

Is it a new idea/recent enterprise in Oz?

They have a nice selection of beers there, I just wonder who would try to brew a Foster's - except for tourists :o
