Question from the slightly colourblind

I'm playing for the first time in years, so I thought it would be good to start a new campaign in 1939. All the ships I've come across showed up as green icons on my navigation map, so I used the external cam to see what flags they flew. Sure enough, they had British flags (union jack in the corner, on a red field) with the exception of one Norwegian ship.

I would have thought they would be red on the map. Then I started a new game in 1940 to see if it was a campaign issue and found that in the harbour there was green and blue icons.

My question is: what does the icon's colour mean on the map?

I do believe that green is neutral and blue is friend. and red is enemy

From what I can tell, you're right. Maybe it was just a bug that showed British ships as neutral?

I assume you're using GWX. If so, you start on August 1, 1939. The war doesn't start until September 1, so all nations are neutral for the first month of the game. Sink one and return home and your own forces will consider you an enemy for 24 hours.

If you're running the contact color mod for GWX, this is correct. :sunny:

Yep, I tried the color mod for GWX and that has help immensely. So what does one do for the first month of play if there's no war on yet?

Go on a shakedown cruise and get the feel of your boat. Practice doing all the stuff you may have to do under pressure once you're in combat. Well, not all of it, going rogue and attacking ships when there's no war on will give you a renown hit. But if you do take a prewar cruise and behave yourself, you'll likely pick up a little bit of renown and some experience for your crew and possibly a promotion before you head out to see some real action.

Here's what I do: I go on a quick turnaround, and then use SH3 Commander to set my days in port to 18. That way I can be one of the 14 boats sent out on August 19th, and wait for the war to start.

Or you can set your start date for September 1st, or October, or any month you want.

Hey Steve....I reckon we should copyright that answer. I certainly wish I had a £ for every time I've typed similar.

It does show that there is always a fresh influx of SH3/GWX players though :sunny:
