A Minor Annoyance
I feel silly even posting this here, but it's driving me crazy.
When I right-click on the desktop and the little menu comes up, under 'New' there are now several file listings for things I don't want there, such as a sound file from SH3. I've been all through the help section and I can't find out how to remove things from that menu. Clicking an item creates a desktop icon. Right-clicking the item creates a desktop icon. How do I make these things go away? |
I don't know but I think that right-click pop up is called a "context menu" so that might be a term to search for. Seems like I used to know how to customize it but I cannot remember how.
My first thoughts were to look in Taskbar/Start Menu properties and Folder Options (via Control Panel in XP) but I can't find anything in either that looks like what you would want. :hmmm: Well it is customizable to some degree in Tweak UI for XP, if that's your OS. If you don't have Tweak UI it was one of Microsoft's so-called "Power Tools" for Windows, the XP version was available free from the Microsoft site cuz I had it at home and still have it here at work. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...ads/windows-xp Under "My Computer" and "Templates" it has a list of possible document types that can be created from the "New" command on the right-click popup menu, and you can select or deselect them to get them on or off that menu. So obviously it's doable but I don't know how without using Tweak UI. |
^ Yup TweakUI
|
Well, I downloaded TweakUI and it won't even tell me where it installed in on the computer. I found several 'Templates' folders in Owners/Documents or something, but deleting things had no effect on the click-menu.
Next? |
There's a shortcut to it from my Start Menu in All Programs>Power Toys for Windows XP. It points here: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\TweakUI.exe, I assume that's the default location.

While we are on the subject of Tweaking, Win 7/Vista users rejoice, there is something for us too, not made by Microsoft, free to use:
