US election 2012: Michele Bachmann joins race
Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann has become the latest Republican to announce a bid for the US presidency in 2012.
Ms Bachmann, a favourite of the economically conservative Tea Party movement, formally declared in the US state of Iowa - her birthplace. The 55-year-old, who is running high in Republican polls in Iowa, called herself a "bold choice" for president. Iowa is the first state Republicans vote in for their 2012 candidate. Its caucuses in early February are the first electoral event in the US presidential nomination process. Ms Bachmann said she was announcing her candidacy because she was "so profoundly grateful for the blessing I have received, both from God and this great country". "My name is Michele Bachmann, I stand here in the midst of many friends and many family members to announce formally my candidacy for president of the United States," she said. 'Real solutions' Speaking in the town of Waterloo, Ms Bachmann said Americans should not stand for overpriced health care, increasing amounts of debt and continued unemployment, all of which are trademarks of the Obama administration. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13929877 Note: 27 June 2011 Last updated at 15:05 GMT |

It certainly would appear that Obama has stolen the trademarks of numerous previous administrations:rotfl2: |
Due to my exacting sense of fairness, I am willing to forget all the dumb crap she said in the past and am willing to hear what she has for plans to run this country.
If Bachmann is going to be the best of the best of the GOP, I am willing to listen. :yep: Whether I vote for her is another issue. |

She launched her campaign in Waterloo?
Oh lawdy.... |
Geesh, if Bachman and Palin were both to run I can't imagine the dumb statements we've yet to hear.
Give me Paul anyday, I don't want a religious fundy seeking to push ideals on me through government. Course she would never win, just a ploy for attention. |
Michele Bachmann: Her rise to political stardom
A mother-of-five from Iowa has emerged as one of the front-runners in the Republican race to take on Barack Obama in next year's US presidential election. So could Michele Bachmann end up in the White House?
All the momentum among Republicans dreaming of the Oval Office is currently with one woman. Michele Bachmann, a Tea Party favourite and Minnesota congresswoman, is gathering a head of steam in her attempt to win her party's nomination next year. One day after dominating the Sunday political shows, the former tax lawyer formally launched her campaign in her home state of Iowa, which hosts the first stage in the Republican contest in February next year. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13932701 Note: Update Record,28 June 2011 Last updated at 02:45 GMT |
