Poor Brits - this must have come as a shock! :D

A genetic analysis revealed, of all things, that millions of Britons carry a Germanic gene. Britain, it would seem, is more German than many are comfortable with.
:haha:

Funfunfun. It always amused me when I brought to people'S awareness the simple fact that the more you moved towards the Eastern part of Germany,(and Berlin), the more you meet Germans whose physical appearance by hair colour and eye colour seem to owe not to the blond, blue-eyed Germanic cliché, but the dark-haired, dark-eyed appearance for which more slawic genes seem to be responsible. At least it was like that 20 years ago, although due to massive population changes in the past 20 years in the East, this may have changed a bit.

As a matter of fact, modern Germans have very very little to do with the image of the historic Germanic barbars that haunted the Romans in the darkness of Teutonian forests. Both genetically and culturally, we are more Roman than anything else - especially more than being "Germanic".

Genetic analysis revealed some years ago that due to the existence of the Roman empire, genetic features typical for the original Italian Romans are very widespread in europe and even may be responsible for - I forgot which way it was - either typical European immunities or typical European vulnerabilities to certain diseases.

I saw a documentary a month or more back, that only people from Wales are still descendants of the original Britons.

The English are descendants from the (correct me iif I'm wrong) the anglo-saxons that were a germanic nation/tribe/group ??

Diopos 06-24-11 06:41 PM

Well there is a reason for the term "Anglosaxon" isn't it !? :hmmm:

.

Garion 06-24-11 09:53 PM

I regard myself as Scots, but my ethnic origin is Norse.. Danish as far as my great uncle Willy found out during his extensive research and ultimateley African. But I am really a male gender Homo Sapien Sapien. Anything else is just a line on a map at a particular time in history.

And as such is not really relevant... In the grand scheme of things :D

Cheers Garion:D

:haha: Nice article. But if you fail at penalties, you could also very well be Dutch. Ah well, next European Championships are up in a year from now. If the UK wins, Germany can claim part of the win. And the other wy around I guess...

Snestorm 06-24-11 10:23 PM

Anglos - dutch.
Saxons - germans.
Jutes - danes.

Bakkels 06-24-11 10:45 PM

I'm honored but no: the Anglos and the Jutes were Danish, the Saxons were Germans. In the (northern) Netherlands we had the Frisians. But that's just according to the countries as they are known now of course. After all we were all Barbarians! Arrrh! :arrgh!::rotfl2:

Thanks.
You taught me something new (that I should have known).

joegrundman 06-25-11 01:21 AM

i am surprised that this is meant to be a surprise.

and the royal family is substantially more german than the populace at large, since they are the rebranded House of Hanover

And the Angles' original old Engeland before they and the others invaded Ex-Roman Britannia, was located around Schleswig-Holstein, northern germany - near enough to Kiel

Yes, you would have thought that a white supremacist would know such things

BossMark 06-25-11 03:04 AM

When I first looked at this thread I thought it said Tom and Jerry  (but I had just woke up though)

Respenus 06-25-11 03:46 AM

At the time the Saxons invaded, they represented an influx of around 200.000 people (most of them male, with a lot of "cleansing" taking place) into a native population of only around 2M. This is more than enough to show itself in the genetic makeup of the modern English population.

I blame the Italians...
