Replacing my Radeon X1950 Pro PCI-E graphics card. Reccomend me a good replacement !

As the title says. What cards are the best value that would at least match or surpass a little bit what the Radeon x1950 Pro can do ?
There's so many freakin' cards out there to choose from so I've been getting overloaded with options, half of which I don't understand anyway. Suggestions ?
The requirements are
1. dual monitors
2. games
3. quiet (I do music recording in here. I had two Nvidia cards prior to the Radeon and the fans on those started buzzing really loud.)
4. Hopefully not breaking my bank purchasing it.

:hmmm: that shouldn't be so hard...

A sweet spot is an AMD HD 6990 in Tri-Fire with an AM HD 6970. Runs everything pretty well :D

What's your budget?

The only problem I have with an HD 6990 is that it costs more than my car currently does. Is there anything within the $100 range that will fit the bill ?

I would say that little is close to be a waste, but add another $50 and you can have the 5770...

Thanks. MY wife is flipping out at me that I have to spend $100 even. I'd have to sell my car and not pay my share of the bills here for a month before I'd be able to afford that other card.

Have you tried that on the wife? :O:

Blacklight 06-24-11 08:22 PM

Nope. Hehe. Frankly, I like my games, but I also like living indoors so whatever I buy has to be of reasonable price.

is an actual thing that some Iranian naval vessels (read military speed boats) broadcast to a US ship that they claimed was intruding in their territorial waters. They claimed that their boundary stretched WAY FAR OUT IN THE OCEAN from where the boundaries really are. The boats kind of harassed the US vessel for a little bit and then sped away.

Well that extra 50 bucks will save you alot more in the long run. As you will probably have to spend another 100 or 150 in the future if you go cheap.

I'm probably going to look for a good price on a 5770. It looks to be roughly in my ballpark.

Ah, yes! Remember those pesky things from years ago, the first Iraq/Kuwait war.
Was busy with producing working drawings for Vintners Place back in my own home, when the war broke out.
Followed it on CNN for most part of an entire year... strange time.

Why not go second-hand? Lots of good stuff floating around for reasonable money.

Some people seems to upgrade a lot... :D

Indeed, have used the second hand market myself plenty of times, nowadays you might even pick up a gtx 460 for that price on the second hand market.

I don't know if this is the fix for the problem with my Radeon x1950, but I just for the hell of it tried the Omega drivers with it. It seems to be perfect and the screen never looked this good with the ATI drivers. I may not need a new video card after all.
