I think I have witnessed a first in submarine warfare!
I got ambushed by a passenger liner... :damn:
I was passing the straights of Gibraltar (submerged to avoid destroyers and elcos) when I noticed a lot of black lines from sonar (merchant ships) I come up to periscope depth and notice a huge number of ships ahead, as I somehow managed to blunder on a convoy. Feeling lucky, I start lining up a shot with the biggest ship I see (a tanker) when WHAM! I get blindsided by a passenger liner from the right. In Atlantic you ambush passenger liner, in Gibraltar passenger liner ambush you I guess. :DL Funny thing is, I'm %99.9 sure that the passenger liner hadn't detected me at the time, so it was entirely my fault. In the end I did manage to sink a decent tonnage of ships (including the offending liner) so I still consider myself lucky but that was an interesting experience. |
You are not the first nor the last to be rammed by a merchant.
It is a risk you have to take when attacking a convoy from within its columns Gute Jagd Herr Kaleun |
I guess the passengers didn't want to go for a swim... :O:

BE MORE AGGRESSIVE!!
Welcome to SubSim :salute: |
Being hit by a Passenger Liner, in a convoy, is one problem I'll never have to worry about.
With my setup, they all run alone, and they all run 30+ knots. If you ever meet one, there isn't much time to do anything other than gawk. Almost got run over by one. And we were surfaced! That's the only one I've ever encountered. |
