Question: WWII UK Sub colors

Just bought a new model off ebay. Going for something different, a WWII era RN U class submarine. Got it cheap, but I have a question. What colors did the RN paint their subs in WWII? What color is the hull above and below the waterline, and what color is the deck etc. I'd like to be able to buy the paints before the model arrives in the mail.

Maybe steel gray or black-brown.....:hmm2:

You might start here. There are sections on the different classes with some plate drawings. Nothing too deep, but it's a start.

Next, depending on how detailed you want to get, this is probably one of the best sources.

There are probably others out there, but Osprey has a good reputation and includes colour plates.

Ok thanks Steve. Looks like I'll be using gray for the hull above the WL, and black below with dark gray for the deck.

Off to the hobby shop for some extra paint.
