Capital Ships and Where you Found them
I was wondering what the most unique enemy capital ships you have found in SH3 were, where you found them, and when.
I know that at least for British capital ships there was a page (I think it was part of the GWX manual) documenting the routes and for how long they take place--I have seen these before. Also, I have rarely played long enough to reach the US's entry into the war. Where can you find American capital ships and where? Any in port? |
You will get possible locations to some of them by radio so read every single radio message. You will get a message about Ark Royal position very early in the war, but later on you'll get messages all the time!
Good Hunting! :arrgh!: |
I've not seen any American capital ships as yet. :damn:
The only British capital ships I've spotted were a couple of battleships and a Southhampton, iirc, west of Gibraltar, running for the strait at 28 knots. This was Late '41 or early '42. I've seen, and sunk the occasional Southhampton in port. |
I like to patrol in and around Scapa Flow and Loch Ewe. They're both good spots for picking up individual warships and/or enemy task forces. :yep:

The only way to be 100% sure is to interrogate the scrited campaign in the mission editor :03:

In 1940 some of the convoys that pass around Rockall have battleships escorting them. The area north of Loch Ewe is a good place to patrol as task forces containing capital ships converge around here, beware getting caught in shallow water though.
Fixed events, like the Norwegian campaign, the Bismarck episode and Pedestal generate capital ships in areas they would roughly have been historically. I havent been to the Caribbean for a while but I recall radio reports of fast task forces heading down to the Panama Canal area. |
Gibraltar usually has heavy British Empire targets. There are destroyers and light cruisers. Heavy cruisers, battlecruisers, battleships and carriers can be found there on occasion.
The best American equivalent is Norfolk, but even there it's mainly destroyers. |
Thanks for the pointers!
I feel like hunting task forces, while breath-taking is a sure way to end my career before 1941. I actually had one career way back where I sank two Rodney's and a Repulse class battleship. One Rodney was in a convoy around Rockall, the other was during the Norwegian Campaign. The Repulse was sunk west of Ireland but about parallel in lattitude with Lock Ewe. This current career I ran into one of the Rockall Convoys but had no torps as I was on a return trip. Are there any Task Forces to be found say in 1943-45 besides hunter-killer CVE groups? |
I really like the TF, then they are part of my mission to 90% :yep:
|
I punched a hole in a henry V up in scapa flow once... didn't sink, and nearly got my scopes ripped off trying to get back into position and reattack, but had to back out after my last two torps didn't make it all the way to target (first one too far away, and the second one dudded out i think... that's the only problem with type II's, not enough torps when you need 'em

So it was renamed again and this time correctly. I rename this ship King George V. :) |
Why not rename it to David Cameron, it might be easier to hit then, :O:
