Computer freeze & temporary refuses to boot up when reset.
Don't you just love it?
So playing a game suddently at random my PC freezes completly... (still image and the sound is humming constantly) but no BSOD appears... time to press the reset button......computer restarts...no Beep and no signal on the monitor. press Reset again....no dice press Reset again....computer powers down....and after 3 or so second it boots up but no beep and no screen. leaving the PC turned off (without any power) for a short while and then boot up...it starts to work again...just to freeze again at any attempt of playing a game for a bit. :damn: back to the shop with this one. lucky the mobo, videocard, memory sticks and CPU are less then a year old so if it's any of them it's waranty time. but still it pisses me off :shifty: HunterICX |
Agree, if not a fan problem then I would say a part is dying, the problem is finding it, most likely motherboard or video card, try with an old card, also if your system is overclocked try running stock!:hmmm:

:hmmm: well I just stressed my PC twice with Shogun 2 Total war running DX11 with a high number of units and played another game a bit and nothing happens
the issue happend twice when running AvP (alien vs predator 2010) in DX11 mode...giving it like 5 - 10 minutes play time before my PC would lock (though once it did just after closing it and tried to talk through teamspeak and it immediatly locked up my PC and giving me that boot up issue after reset) strange... the temps I could monitor where the GPU and CPU GPU would on heavy load be around 70 - 72șC CPU on 100% load 60-67șC and when placing my hand on the PSU casing doesn't feel hot to me.... Right...scrap that
was just in the menu of Left 4 Dead 2 when my PC suddently decided to power off and couple of seconds power on again completely by itself..... EDIT: even better...when the PC was back on and just tried to launch L4D2 it did it again....wtf is going on!! HunterICX |
Right another theory....
we have a problem in the house hold with the electricity lately. sometimes at a random time during the day/night the voltage drops down to 130V according to the UPS monitor(normally our house should be 220-230V) lights start to flicker and devices turn off or go nuts like their stanby lights go become discolights or make klicking noises well I have a UPS that will kick in the battery when the power drops too low...but it doesn't when measuring 210v could this cause my PC to hang up or turn off at any random moment because it just can't juice my components enough? HunterICX |
I think the term is ''Brownout''
I'll wait till the issue of our electricity is resolved before I suspect the PC is going nuts on me. as said I do have a UPS which kicks in when the voltage drops too low so my PC doesnt shutff off unless the battery is drained, but it does nothing when there's a slight drop like 210ish which I think is already too low when running a PC which needs to be juiced to run stuff. also can Brown Outs damage components? even if there's a UPS between it. HunterICX |
We are supposed to have 240 volts but generally 220 and at night drops to below 215, when the air conditioner cuts in the power will momentarily drop to 210v and the UPS will cut in then cut off, so I got sick of this and don't use it, am saving for a voltage stabilizer, they are around $100, and should do the job concerning the AC cutting in and out.:hmmm:
Concerning your problem it could be, though I doubt it. Is your UPS continuous charge (PC runs off battery that is continuously being charged) type or cut in? |

so when the battery kicks in it keeps my PC juiced a stable 230V when the battery isn't kicked it it may vary usually between 220 - 230V http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/3328/snapshotuxb.png ^the voltage around the time the PC froze and refused to boot up properly for a while (no beep & No signal on the monitor). still it doesn't explain why my PC decided to shut off and 3 seconds later to turn on again on itself when just beeing in the menu of a game and once while just launching it...the voltage at that time was 222V - 228V HunterICX |
Sounds like overheating to me as well, though I don't see how that is possible regarding what you have told us here. :hmmm:
Hard drive failure? Seems likely to me as well. |

This is where a second computer is needed, I would take out all cards and use a different video card and power supply, then run that for a day.:yep: |
Indeed, bit of a luxury though to have the spares to swap out.
I guess the PSU might be damaged from the fluctuating voltages, another option to consider. UPS is nice when the power cuts out, but it's not the same as a line conditioner. :hmmm: |
Voltage drops could damage electrical and electronic equipment especially in the long run.
My voltage stabilizer would shut down when the voltage goes down certain threshold. |
Ah well...PC is at the store...let them sort it out whats causing my problems, since most of the components are still in warranty so it's a shame not to use that privelege :D
anyway hooked up le PS2 to my LCD monitor to pass some of boring afternoons :haha: HunterICX |
You were playing Shogun 2 at the time this happened? Could be ninja infiltration :D
|
Shop called and my PC is ready for pickup....seemed it was a heating issue from what I could recall as I was busy at work when he called it had to do with my chipset overheating due the fan/heatsink had came lose a bit, so it has been put back into place and the whole case and components have been cleaned
