Here we go again - London bomb threat

Back to the bad old days. Still, it was nice while it lasted. At least the IRA gives warnings unlike Al'Qaeda.

Torplexed 05-16-11 07:29 AM

The IRA's way of saying, "Hi, did you miss me?" :hmmm::hmmm:

Ya. Still, it's not the IRA proper, it's splinter groups from the old IRA. The hard nuts who couldn't put down their arms. Probably the Real IRA lot:

Aye. :damn: With any luck they'll be duds and that. Not like the nail bombs and the Docklands bombings of the old IRA.

Tchocky 05-16-11 07:45 AM

With RIRA, sadly not probably duds.

At least they've graduated to warnings, ach :/

Jimbuna 05-16-11 07:54 AM

They often give a code word to cause maximum disruption...whether there is a bomb or not.

If the intent is to kill or maim (such as the catholic police officer recently) they dropped using coded warnings after the peace settlement was reached.

Unfortunately the authorities don't have the luxury of adhering to any particular protocol.

papa_smurf 05-16-11 10:18 AM

I still remember the Manchester bomb and the rebuilding after. Yet despsite the IRA's best efforts Manchester came out of the bombing much stronger and more economically stronger.

Jimbuna 05-16-11 10:46 AM

According to the news an hour ago the security forces believe they are better equipped than previously and the 'intent' is also at an all time high (since the peace process).

Oberon 05-16-11 11:07 AM

Well, we've had a lot of technology coming out of the States to deal with Al'Qaeda, as well as an increase in security protocols following 9/11 and 7/7. So it's not as if we've been lapsing since the Peace Process. The cuts in police funding are a bit of a worry though, but I imagine the cuts will happen more outside of the cities.

Just don't anyone consider cutting my pension :stare:

It was good to see Marian Price getting her licence revoked. Though they should have sent her back to prison at easter.
