Is There a Joystick Control Mod?
Is there any mod that allows me to use my joystick for fine control movements?
It'd be great for some of the faster playable ships Thanks |
no there isnt....
it would complicate the game to much... |

I dont think such a thing is possible game engine wise. How would use it anyway,to move on foot in the sub control dives? too complex.

Somewhere buried in the archives is a thread about this.:yep:
Whether it could be done ? The answer is there. |

When I use my joystick, usually it's 10 inch aerobatic formation flying at 200kts - not 36kts dodging shells. |

just picked up Enemy Engaged 2 a month ago :yeah: anyway, 200knts is kinda slow (helicopters go 200knts).... arent you flying WWII planes? like i said, i do modern heli/fixedwing sims... so im going at 2,000 MPH+ (Mach 2.1 baby!):rotfl2::haha: My joystick: Saitek Cyborg-X |
I think you also have to remember that conning a ship and flying an aircraft is something that is done very, very differently. For one, those in charge of navigation, overall command, and actually turning the wheels, are very different people. And it's that way for good reasons.

I would agree that ships are nothing like planes, but he did specifically mention the playable PT boat, and in those one man controlled the wheel and the throttles, so I guess I can understand.
|
Yeah, though I doubt we can get that easily in a game that's not built for PT boats to begin with.
It's also worth pointing out that the helm/dive plane stations on modern submarines have also long been replaced by sticks, although you won't see the boat's captain on those. That said, by the way, is there a solid PT boat mod for SH4 out there? I feel like I've missed out on something :hmmm: |

My stick - Saitek X65 flight control system w/ dual seperable throttles, F-16 style pressure sensitive stick, instrument display module, and Saitek pro pedals |
I think even if you could remap throttle and rudder controls to a Joystick using a 3rd party program (I think there is such software around IIRC) the problem is that the game is not programmed to be linear, i.e. you have simply X number of forward and backward speed settings and not a % that increases linearly with your input. And more or less the same for rudder, plus in both cases the game takes some time to rsponse, as it mimmics the delay in the voice order, the telegraph settinga nd lastly the helmsman acting on the rudder :hmmm:
