Well considering they would need the permission of the state legislation in order to do this, I would say this is a non issue.

and conservatives in Texas and Alaska always want their own country...this isn't the first time.

Well Texas was its own country and Alaska is separated from the U.S. by Canada so its almost understandable.......almost.

Nothing new. California's been having that discussion for as long as I can remember.

Now, the new senator from the welfare state of of baja arizona. You know, they could just sell that part of the state back to mexico?:hmmm:

Sailor Steve 05-11-11 03:17 PM

"Sell"? The Mexicans have complained for years that we stole that land, but I'll bet we'd have to pay them to take it back.

On the other hand, given the current population there...

If you're going to split a state, do it during a civil war or some other national calamity.

It worked for West Virginia. :D

Living in Texas, I can assure you that concept is very real in the minds of many Mexicans.

Looks like they're taking back more than Texas and Arizona.

We never "invaded" or "took" Texas anyhow. They seceded from Mexico, and then wanted to become a state (memory might not serve correct there)

The entire issue makes me fightin mad - especially when I run into those people that think America is Satan and that our existence is wrong.

I should stop before I start swearing.

I'd love to see the VSRK (Very Strange Republic of Kalifornistan)

Edited for spelling - brains a bit foggy today.

Your memory is just fine. Your use of "succeed" for "secede", however...:O:

Santa Ana couldn't get many Mexicans to move to the wasteland that was Texas, so when Gringos volunteered to work the land (or rather have their slaves do so) El Presidente was delighted. He was a little less happy when they decided to become an independent country, and even less so when they succeeded in seceding. Then 1845 came along and they asked to become a US state. Santa Ana (who had been removed from power after the loss of Texas but then made a comeback) warned us that if the US took in Texas it would mean war. At that time we were warned by both Britain and France that Mexico had the best Napoleonic army in the world. We still managed to win all the battles and the war, and took the rest of Norte Americano as a prize. At one point the Mexican Congress was even trying to get us to annex the whole country, but President Polk objected and our Congress said no, but thanks anyway, and here we are with them subtly trying to take it back by invading one person at a time.

Seriously, though, the best book I've read on the subject was So Far From God, by General John Eisenhower (son of Dwight and father of David).

Imagine what would happen if WE did that today. Laying claim to a free state not otherwise diplomatically or politically connected - and threatening (and going to) war over it.

Mexico - the US is so horrible for not taking more of this extra useless dirt off our hands than they already did!

USA (20 years later) - Sweet, look what we did to the crap Mexico gave us! Pretty sweet, huh?

Mexico - BU-BU BUT YOU FREAKIN STOLE OUR SHIIT!

USA - No - dudes - you gave it to us.

Mexico - I HATE YOU! WAWAWAWAAAHH!!! WAR!

Britain and France - *America - wait - we're still pissed at them* Mexico gonna own you!

USA (5 years later) - Haha look at what we did to Mexico - legit they just got owned! But now I think we need some more space - lets take this desert thing - not like they're using it.

Mexico - uh - okay I guess... You wanna take the rest of us and like help us out some?

USA - Na - we're good for now.

USA (60 years later) - Holy crap, VEGAS BABY!

Mexico - BUT YOU TOOK OUR STUFF!

USA - No - you gave it to us.

Mexico - bu-bu-but it was ours! We want it back!

USA - sucks for you, bro

Mexico - HELP!

USA - too late

Mexico - Okay people, if they won't come to us - CHARGE!!!! WE TAKE US TO THEM!

Born and raised there. Believe me, I know.

Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. I wouldn't go back for a million dollars. In the first place I don't speak the language.

I don't know if any of you checked out the census map but some areas of SO. Cal are over 90% Hispanic.
