Arnold Schwarzenegger and wife Maria Shriver separate

FORMER California Governor and action movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver have separated after 25 years of marriage. "This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us," the couple said in a statement received by the Los Angeles Times.
"After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together. At this time, we are living apart while we work on the future of our relationship.
"We are continuing to parent our four children together. They are the light and the centre of both of our lives.
"We consider this a private matter and neither we nor any of our friends or family will have further comment. We ask for compassion and respect from the media and the public."
Shriver, 55, moved out of the couple's mansion in Brentwood, California, a few weeks ago, the Times reported.
The couple met when NBC journalist and former newsreader Tom Brokaw introduced Shriver to Schwarzenegger - then an Austrian bodybuilder - at a charity tennis tournament in 1977.
The pair married in 1986, with their 25th wedding anniversary passing without fanfare on April 26 this year.
They have four children - Katherine, 21, Christina, 19, Patrick, 17, and 13-year-old Christopher.
Schwarzenegger shot to fame as an action movie star, with lead roles in such films as Conan the Barbarian, The Terminator, Commando and Predator, before his role as a politician.
Shriver is a journalist and author of six best-selling books.
Shriver and Schwarzenegger, 63, proved to be an odd couple in their public lives, finding themselves at opposite ends of the political spectrum.
Republican Schwarzenegger served two terms as governor of California - during which time he was referred to as "The Governator". His second term ended in January this year.
Shriver, meanwhile, belongs to the Kennedy family, a Democratic dynasty in US politics. Shriver's mother was Eunice Kennedy Shriver - the sister of former US President John F Kennedy.
She publicly backed Democrat Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential campaign, while Schwarzenegger supported his Republican opponent John McCain.

Well thats too bad. :nope:

Hope they work it out or make the right and respectful decisions by one another and for their kids. (though it appears a couple of them are old enough to be out of the house)

not all marriages work, especially when differences in politics can get involved.

I wish the best for both of them, and i hope the media respects their wishes.

Wow. First Al and Tipper. Now Arnold and Maria.

Makes you wonder if Bill and Hillary are really still married or just pretending. :D

Agreed...

It's always sad when a marriage breaks down. Especially in a case like this when it was such a high profile union of left and right. It kind of stood out as a small beacon of hope that people who disagree politically can still live with and respect one another.

Best wishes for them personally and especially for the kids. :yep:

After 25 years of being together. Arnold is he serious?

The kids!

The commitment!

The love and admiration in the beginning,

The time well spent together

The romance all this time

The companionship

The friendship

The laughters

The hugs,

The hand holding

The kisses

The outings,

25 years?! I can understand people breaking up after 2-5 years of marriage but 25?! I see a marriage worth saving here. You don't stick in a marriage for 25 years unless there's good chemistry in there.

25 years of marriage broken apart by politics

I dare say there is more to this story than meets the eye.
After 25 years?
Long time together with someone. Something not right here.
Hope they work it out.

Marriage license should be like a drivers license. After 4 years it automatically expires unless it is renewed.
