Just Saw A Very Good Movie
I let a friend talk me into going to our local $1 theater today, and saw a movie I hadn't even heard of: The King's Speech.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1504320/ Being a history buff I was well aware of King George VI, the current queen's father, and king during WW2. I didn't, however, know he had a speech impediment. The movie is the story of that problem, and the man who helped him get around it (I would have said get over it, but the implication is that he never really did). Colin Firth as Prince Albert (later King George), Guy Pearce as Prince David (later King Edward VIII), Michael Gambon as their father George V, Helena Bonham Carter as Albert's wife Elizabeth, and Geoffrey Rush as Lionel Logue, the failed Australian actor who became the friend of a king. Great cast, great writing, great acting, great history, great movie. It's one I'll be buying soon to add to my collection. |
Yes I seen this last week and liked it as well. I was a bad stutter when a child that thankfully died out when I became an adult. Good movie. :yep:
|
An outstanding movie. Colin Firth certainly had the more difficult performance to pull off, but Geoffrey Rush got all the good lines. :D
Lionel Logue: [as Bertie is lighting up a cigarette] Please don't do that. Bertie: I'm sorry? Lionel Logue: I believe sucking smoke into your lungs will kill you. Bertie: My physicians say it relaxes the throat. Lionel Logue: They're idiots. Bertie: They've all been knighted. Lionel Logue: Makes it official then. |
Yeah I enjoyed the movie too when I caught it in the movie theater when it was just released.
Good movie though I can understand younger people might not like it due to its no sex, no gun and no explosion scene :DL |
I suppose you didn't watch the Oscars then?:hmmm:
It won Best Picture and I think some of the acting awards. :) |
Yea, watched the director's cut online just when it came out, a great movie....
Just glad the he neve choked on a marble..lol. |
It's recently won just about everything possible here in the UK Steve....a great film and the breakthrough into international acting recognition that many believe Colin Firth was well overdue.
|
For a film with no sex, drugs, violence, rock and/or roll, it was just brilliant. Even 13 yo stepson watched it and enjoyed it. :yep:
I heard on the radio recently that Colin Firth has continued the occasional stutter because he'd had to stutter so much during filming. :o |
I will consider to see the movie
|
I heard it was positively brilliant in almost every regard and I've added it to my long list of stuff to watch.
P.S. btw, Steve, I haven't gotten around to watching the Superman movie or Smallville yet. I just haven't had a block of time when I could turn on the TV and raise the volume w/o interruptions yet. |

I'm a stutterer. it really pisses me off at times :-? the frustration of trying to say something and just not being able to. so i know what the king went trough, my respects to him:salute:
|
Colin Firth was good but I thought Geoffrey Rush who played as Lionel Logue did very well, though Colin having to stutter wouldn't of been easy. Nice how at the end they stated how the king and Lionel were friends for life and he gave him a title if I remember correct. Did Geoffrey win an award at the academy?
