SH3 Commander killed my Kaleun?
I started a new career and had a very sucessful first patrol sinking 80K Tons of merchant shipping before returning to base with no damage taken to the U-Boat.
I did indeed make it home in one piece as medals were issued to my crew and my renown score had increased accordingly. On exiting the game from the 'office' screen SH3 Commader popped up and informed me that my U-boat was lost at sea on the date of my return! :wah: I figured something is either badly wrong with my SH3 install or SH3 Commander itself, so I am going to reinstall everything and start form scratch again. My question is... has anyone else ever had this happen to them, and if so how can I avoid this in the future? |
SH3CMDR didn't do it, SH3 did. CMDR just read your saved game file patrol report for you.
There are a lot of reasons that SH3 does this. One is a mod conflict, but there are more. |

As you say, I'd try an exit and reload prior to upgrades etc. |
I never make any changes on the first patrol, either before leaving or after coming back. Start patrol, finish patrol, exit game, open Commander, update Personnel file, do whatever else I want to do from there (crew management, play with the log, etc.). Then if I want to change stuff on the boat I wait until I go back in the game to start the next patrol. So far, so good. :yep:

Speaking of dying Kaluens, why is it that we (the Kaleun) only die if the boat is lost? We should be just as vulnerable as the rest of the crew!

Well, I think the chance of my Kaleun getting killed or injured in action might add some cautiousness and excitement to my playing. "Do I attack this convoy from the inside and risk getting my boat depth charged and risk losing my career?" "Do I attack this lone merchant with a deck gun and risk my Kaleun getting killed?" "Do I try to shoot this aircraft down when there's a chance of injury to my Kaleun as well, not just the crew members?" I'm thinking from now on if I make a decision to risk a crew members life like in attacking a weakly armed small merchant with the deck gun and my gunnery crew gets killed or injured I might throw a dice - if I get a one the captain was on the deck too and got killed, if I get a two, he got injured. |

If the entire bridge crew is killed, hit Escape, and Abandon Carreer. You can roll a die for partial losses. Although I won't do it, you certainly can. We're all individuals. Enjoy the game as you see fit. |

Comes from way too many reinstallations and testing 'bugs' :)
