[WIP] Type IX re-scaling
Hiya,
Okay, I've been experimenting with up-sizing the Type IX to see if I can make the scaling better and reduce or eliminate the larger than life crew size phenomenon. Current upscaling ration is x1.13. Some before and after screenshots for comparison: http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/2...izebefore2.jpg http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/3...sizeafter1.jpg http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/8...izebefore1.jpg http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/8...sizeafter2.jpg http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/9...izebefore3.jpg http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/5...sizeafter3.jpg I really need some comments on the scaling before I put in lots more hours on this so I'll hold off now until folks post as I don't want to have to do all this work again if required. Kind regards Aces |
I just browsed tru some photos, and most of the time a person of average high would be just about breast-high peeking over the tower.
Which comes quite close to your estimation. Here one nice shot of U-190: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...&postcount=203 In most shots people are perched on those stepping bars. If you ask me, I'd say go for it. |
Thanks for the photos mate that's a real help,
I'm going to do some sea trials tonight and will probably post some in-game screenshots here later. But for now here's the Turm http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/1...ixc1larger.jpg Upscaled Turm plus upscaled and re-positioned UZO, DF antenna, Radio Antenna (rectractable) and Periscopes plus re-positioned watch crew and Privateer's Turm Emblems Your Way plus support Anvart's UP/Down Flags/Pennants/DF Antenna. Plus bridge objects as per my Type 7c1 Super Turms v5.1 boat. Cheers Aces |
So you are scaling just the CT, right?
How does it result once placed on the hull? Does the UBoat still look OK, or does the hull now look a bit dwarfed? Anyway, excellent initiative and here's hoping you achieve good results :yeah: |
No, I'm re-scaling the lot, hull as well, else the wires from the turm won't meet the hull.

Hi Aces,
I recommend to pull the vertices upward instead of scaling that can have adverse effects . Best regards Hans |
Thanks mate,
I'll think on it. Cheers Aces |

The only good thing about rescaling (I've done it in Sh4 to produce a Cachalot class model) is that textures continue to fit exactly, otherwise retexturing it all would be a nightmare. Hats off to your dedication :salute: |
Hi Aces,
great effort  Concerning the re-scaling of the UZO and DF antenna, I'm not sure. Shouldn't these items have the same size in relation to the crew for the type VII and IX :hmmm: My feeling was that they have the same size at the moment (the UZO itself, not the mounting). Maybe just increasing the height of the conning tower 'walls' would be enough (to the same height as the VII conning tower has) :06: Anyway, great work so far! Cheers, LGN1 |

will not bother the animation as long as the pivot points are not changed. |
Wow !:salute:
Exellent job, just stuning! I am looking forward to applying it to my U-518 IXC. |
Hi folks,
Thanks for your encouragement, I think LGN1's idea is a good one, I have spent the morning re-sizing and positioning for a x1.13 taller only turm. I haven't re-sizes anything else, only the tuurret height. Best Regards Aces http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/6...m9cresize2.jpg http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/3...m9cresize3.jpg http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/2...m9cresize4.jpg Now for a sort of Titanic moment :) http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/1...m9cresize5.jpg http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/1...m9cresize1.jpg http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/8277/turm9cresize6.jpg |
Looks quite good! And it doesn't stand out in any bad way!:D
|
Thanks mate,
