no aircrafts?
i used to pay silent hunter 3 all the time few years back and now that i have started playing again i noticed that the game is way too easy. I have pretty hard difficulty settings, i think 74% or smt but i still can rack up tonnage. im on patrol 13 and its july 1943. I have over 300,000 tons of sinking. the only thing i find hard is when im detected underwater, it is very difficult to escape enemy asdic. even at 280m they depth charge me. but back to my main point, there is simply no aircrafts. i have patrolled waters around Ireland, england and in the Mediterranean. where are the planes who gave the uboats such a hard time? i even travelled all the way to the indian ocean and spotted no aircraft and i sank a 40,000 tonner ocean liner with no retaliation. oh and im using GWX 3.0 gold with SH3 commander.

What year is it? Early war there are few aircraft as coastal command hadn't gotten it's act together yet. Late 44 and '45 I was very grateful I had a snorkel, as surfacing was a death wish, and even the snorkel was attracting the radar equipped planes.

hey thanks for the reply. i think i said it was july 1943? anyway i even tried a new campaign in 1944; i ran into a giant aircraft with all sorts of radar antennas and bombs near Loch Ew but that was it. certainly dont use any snorkels because it hinders my speed and range. There are however plenty of lone destroyers around which i pick off with the acoustic torpedo.
i am reinstalling SH3 now and im going to try the vanilla and see if there is better air traffic. |
Welcome Aboard pickler!

I havent installed GWX yet and im afraid of doing this. the vanilla game is plain in terms of graphics and details but more realistic to me. is there a mod that will improve textures and graphics without touching the gameplay/traffic/scripts ? |
What time compression are you playing at?
It's been my understanding that the higher tc settings, as in above 256tc, screw with the spawn of aircraft. Try transiting 'the Bay' on the surface at 128tc or less and see what happens. In 1943 aircraft should be all over you.:hmmm: |

During the Battle of Britain, I was sitting east of Lowestoft, sinking any merchant tonnage which happened by.
First, I avoided a couple of Spitfires. They didn't see me. Next I sank a schooner just for sounding like a bigger target on my sonar. Imagine my surprise when 2 JU-88s approach, circle the wreck and fly back to France. Did I steal their kill? A few days later I'm charging my batteries, and a plane is spotted. It is a Stuka. I watch it through the binoculars and it makes an attack run on ME! Evidently, it was just practice since no bombs were dropped. His wingman didn't even bother with us. Later that day nine, or thereabouts, He-111s approach and circle the burning wreck of a medium cargo ship, as I sailed back to my lair. Again, did I steal their kill? I certainly hope so. |

i will give this a try, installing GWX3 now. i remember back then when i was addicted to GWX a Romanian bomber destroyed a russian light cruiser just before i torpedoed it in the black sea. since then i decided to shoot romanian aircrafts on sight :D |
