'Nuclear hellstorm' if bin Laden caught - 9/11 mastermind

THE mastermind of the 9/11 attacks warned that Al-Qaeda has hidden a nuclear bomb in Europe which will unleash a "nuclear hellstorm" if Osama bin Laden is captured, leaked files revealed today. The terror group also planned to make a 9/11 style attack on London's Heathrow airport by crashing a hijacked airliner into one of the terminals, the files showed.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed told Guantanamo Bay interrogators the terror group would detonate the nuclear device if the Al-Qaeda chief was captured or killed, according to the classified files released by the WikiLeaks website.
Sheikh Mohammed, the self-professed mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, has been held at Guantanamo since 2006 and is to be tried in a military court at the US naval base on Cuba over the attacks.
His nuclear threat was revealed in Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper, one of several media outlets which have published the classified assessments of detainees at Guantanamo.
The German weekly Der Spiegel, also citing WikiLeaks, said that Sheikh Mohammed had told his interrogators he had set up two cells for the purpose of attacking Heathrow in 2002.
The aim was to seize control of an airliner shortly after take-off from Heathrow, one of the world's busiest aiports, turn it around and crash it into one of the four terminals.
Sheikh Mohammed said one cell had been formed with the aim of taking flying lessons in Kenya, while the other had been tasked with recruiting participants.
He said the plot had been discussed several times at the highest level of Al-Qaeda. One component had involved the infiltration of ground staff at the airport, according to Der Spiegel.
Another attack given the green light in late 2001 would have targeted "the tallest buildings in California" with hijacked airliners, Der Spiegel reported.
The attackers would have gained access to the airliner cockpits by setting off small bombs hidden in their shoes, it said.
Sheikh Mohammed, captured in 2003 in Pakistan, also claims to have personally beheaded US journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002 with his "blessed right hand" and to have helped in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing that killed six people.
Der Spiegel noted that his "confessions" should have be treated with caution as they could have been extracted through torture. Sheikh Mohammed is known to have undergone the method known as "waterboarding."
Former US president George W. Bush claimed in his memoirs published last year that using the interrogation technique - which simulates drowning - helped prevent planned attacks on Heathrow and London's Canary Wharf business district.
He also told the London Times newspaper in November that it was "damn right" that he had authorised use of the method on Sheikh Mohammed.

Personally, i don't think they'll ever catch him.
It'll be a case of a la A.Hitler.
He'll kill himself before he lets himself be caught.
No way in hell they'll ever catch him.
On the subject of nuclear hell coming, that i do believe.
And it will originate in Europe.

In other news KSM also said he killed JFK in a pre-emptive strike and was holding the easter bunny captive:yawn:

This kind of threat after the japan nuclear crisis! Why didn't they do this sooner. If a world contry was devastated by a small meteorite, they would say that they could destroy europe or usa by sending one enormous asteroid?????

Skybird 04-25-11 09:44 AM

I'm not surprised if it is true. A nuclear "suitcase bomb" (or refrigerator bomb or whatever kind of box-size is needed), and nuclear proliferation always have been of much bigger concern to me than just conventional nuclear bombs stationed in some rogue nation. Which is part of the reasons why my stand on nuclear developements in some nations has become so totally uncompromising and determined over the past couple of years.

And hiding nuclear bombs in Western nations would be exactly the way I would do, if I were the bad guys. It means ultimate vulnerability to almost unlimited blackmailing options - and that is the absolute and maximum worst case scenario I can think of. It means to have a laser-sharp razor knife at my throat, directly about my carotid artery. Don't blink.

Such a status is totally unacceptable, it is non-negotiable, and must be prevented or ended - at all costs.

Its just fox news re running its "torture is good" line and "look what scary stuff the government is saving us from" on the day other outlets are looking at the leaks from Gitmo and laughing at the whole farce and the nonsense murdoch and co. have been selling us for the past 9 years.

@ Tribesman:

It seems you are sceptical of most news.
Too far-fetched this one? Too nonsensical?
It also seems you are a pure optimist and that something like this could probably, almost certainly (or) never happen, because it is just the media playing the scaremongering game.
True enough, i don't belive everything i read. I also have a independant mind which can make up its own mind on the news the media choses to feed us.
However, we haven't heard your thoughts on this particular bit of news that i have posted.
Or have we, with the 2 that you've posted so far.
The general 'feel' of those posts is that of tiresome dribble by the big bad media, who is just out to attempt to scare us.

You are indicating all of it is garbage? Some of it? Most of it?
Just curious Tribesman, not having a go at you, just wanting you to be a bit more concise and to the point in your thoughts about this thread topic.

The world's a scary place. That's not news to any of us. It's not as if the threat of nuclear bombs just went away with the cessation of the Cold War.

That said, it doesn't surprise me that dude said they'd nuke Europe - another wedge to drive between the Number One Great Satan (US) and all the other Satans (EU) working with it.

Correct! The Holy War! The age old war. To end all wars!

Tchocky 04-25-11 10:23 AM

Considering Al-Qaeda's fantastic success rate in Western countries post-9/11, I'm not going to lose much sleep over this.

It doesn't even make sense for AQ to be doing something like this. If they have a nuke squirrelled away somewhere in Europe, why are they tying it to OBL's capture? If the best they can manage to put out there are shoe-bombers and underwear-explosives who can't keep their mouths shut, then setting off the damn nuke already would make them look a lot more effective and fearsome.

"We don't negotiate with terroists" has a corollary - these terrorists have generally nothing to negotiate about.

Looks like they're trying to gain something with the threat - a sort-of Mutually Assured Destruction scenario. "Get our guy, and we'll be in your bases, killing your mans and womans."

Tribesman 04-25-11 10:26 AM

Feuer Frei, this story is very old, it is trotted out regularly.
On this occasion Murdoch is dutifully re running it as the real story behind the leaks published today is that Gitmo is a waste of time and they have known for years it is a waste of time.
So Fox is choosing to bury the "Gitmo was a waste of time" story under an old OMG NUKES.....OSAMA HAS NUKES....SEE TORTURE WORKS:salute: article

Go back to the earlier "crucial revelations through torture" topics as the KSM story is the very same story. Even the Daniel Pearl claim was long ago shown to be complete rubbish.

Torture or any means of not very nice extracting of information sometimes they work and sometimes doesn't.
Depends whom you ask and what agenda he has and how he feels about it.

Should it be used?
Depends whats at stake in given situation.

TLAM Strike 04-25-11 11:10 AM

If they had it they would have used it by now.

If it does go off in Europe I hope the European nuclear powers have the guts to retalitate in kind.

Oberon 04-25-11 11:14 AM

Heathrow eh?

Would clear room for a third runway I suppose... :hmmm:
