A question about DEMON in the Kilo

Hi all

I’m hoping more experienced folk can clarify the process for obtaining a DEMON display for a contact using the Kilo. I’m using stock DW 1.04.

I understand that a broadband tracker needs to be set using the bow sonar, but oftentimes after I have done this (with an A or B tracker shown in the broadband station), I still can’t select the contact in DEMON.

Or rather, sometimes I can and sometimes I can’t. It seems to be sensitive to the order in which I Mark and assign trackers to a contact.

Is there a particular order I need to do this in order to analyse the contact using DEMON? Ie should I assign the broadband tracker before hitting Mark, or vice versa?

I just can’t seem to consistently get to do DEMON analysis, even for a loud surface contact like a freighter.

Advice, or a step by step explanation appreciated.

Most of the time the order of the contact doesn't matter, but the DEMON has always been a little buggy. Sometimes you have a DEMON contact but no designator is displayed at the station, or it's displayed at the wrong button. Sometimes they use a Master designation and sometimes it uses the Sierra designation that went into a Master. So check for those first.

After that, you can try going to the broadband station and dragging the tracker designator off of the contact, and then reassigning. If that still doesn't work, you might have to drop the contact. It shouldn't happen very often though.

Thanks for the reply Molon!

I too experience this problem every once in a while. The contact is tracked but no signature appears on the DEMON. Sometimes it does not help if I drop the tracks and reassign them manually in several different orders.

I have always interpreted that as being impossible for the DEMON to demotulate faint signals.
