No! Not that one, the instrument that you play music on.

I've got guitars (because I'm too inept for anything more complicated).
What instrument(s) have you got lying around waiting for you to get off the computer? What the instrument that you wish you had lying around?

I'll start with my clutch. (Sorry for the lousy picture.)

On the left is my old girl, a 1958 Gretsch Corsair. I've had her since high school (Nixon was president), and I'll never let her go. Very nice action, and the tone from her maple just gets better every year. Surprisingly loud, too.

On the right is my 1971 Gibson SG Deluxe (minus whammy bar). I picked this up brand new for about $400 (big money for a kid making $1.50/hour). It was going to make me a rock star, but it failed. A lot of fun to play, though, and there's something oh-so-satisfying about plugging it in to the old tube-fired Fender Deluxe Reverb-Amp and cranking out some power chords to annoy the children.

In the middle, that's the daily driver. A Fender 210 from the early eighties. It was a fairly crappy guitar when I bought it, and I supposed it still is. But it's also the one that's never in a case, gets tossed around, goes to the beach, and still sounds just as good with five strings as six. It's a beater, and it's held up it's end of the bargain pretty damned well.

Other guitars have come and gone, and some days I curse having let some of them go. But as for these three, I plan on taking them with me. Even the Fender (just in case).

A beautiful pair. Never let them go. I bought an Epiphone 12-string in 1978, the year before my first daughter was born. Had it through thick and thin and for my kids' whole lives. In 2007 it was stolen, and gone forever. Was not the best guitar in the world by a long shot, but it meant the world to me, as it represented a major part of my life.

I've gone through a few guitars and a lot of basses. Today I own a Peavey Grind 5-string bass

Seriously though, that's nice stuff, and it's good to see that you're still playing befor an audience. (I gave that up years ago, and, some days, I miss it.)

I've never owned a bass guitar. Which is kind of weird, as I was told at about 16 years old, that (with wide-stubby fingers like mine) I was probably wasting my time trying to play the six string and ought to be playing the bass. That was probably good advice, but "the band" already had a bassist, so I became a mediocre guitarist instead. Now I listen to Ron Carter, Charles Mingus and (particularly) John Entwistle and my jaw just drops. Missed that.

I'd be interested if anyone out there works a dobro. The sound has long fascinated me and I've been lusting after one for years and years. Although I make regular visits to the local Sam Ash to pluck around in the back room, I've never found "the one" that would make me want to explain the purchase to the wife. ( I once brought home an accordian. That went over well. :rotfl2:)

Not really much to say, bought the bass in 2002, guitar in 2004 and the synth in 2007. :)

I checked out the X-25, Lionclaw, and all of the tech-speak has made me dizzy. Admittedly, my technical saavy never got much past the wah-wah pedal and fuzz box, but that thing looks like magic!

I also own an Ibanez RG something or other with an Edge 3 double locking trem, a squier strat, and the Yamaha acoustic which is totally nondescript, save the radiation symbol sticker I put on it.

No kit, but I do have a joke I read on one of the bass forums. It's a guys sig that says:

So many guitars and basses! But I'll dare to break the trend and bring in something more orchestral.

I played principal in the orchestra here at my University this past semester. Music is a great part of my life and I plan to minor in performance to keep a little bit of sanity safe from my major.

My wife is very understanding and when I met her I did say I came with baggage. I also build the odd ship.
