Fake Wrestling..

This is really big entertainment and I've never got 1000's of adults males cheering a fake drama while men role over each other. Sure, as a kid in the 60's and 70's we watched it, it was big in NC. Just what is it that makes people pay some bucks to go out and watch this stuff? At least they use to pretend it was real. The acting is so terrible that it doesn't even have drama effect. The only thing I can see is babes, but I could think of better places to go see that.

I guess it's all across the board, seems Americans are hooked on fake fantasy reality shows to the point of addiction....just not sure what that says about us.

I've never understood the wrestling thing either.

When i was a kid Hulk Hogan and Sgt. Slaughter were cool!

but i was like seven years old :shifty:

I dont remember the last time i watched wrestling... but i'd say it was prior to 1989 - perhaps earlier.

on another note: what about these people that defend it so staunchly as being real.

boy they get worked up when you even hint that it is fake.

Another good indicator is seeing the retards in the crowds.
:nope:

I loved it as a little kid, before I knew it was fake. Then I went through another phase in college where I did know it was fake, but me and my buddies would all sit around, drink beers and watch it for the trashy soap opera aspect of it.

To each their own.

I suppose it depends what you mean by fake...

If you mean it's staged (i.e. scripted) with pre-determined results, then yes of course it's fake.

On the other hand, you can't fake gravity - so while they pull their kicks and punches a lot of the bumps are actually quite real.

Well, we use to get high and watch fake TV pastors for laughs, as you say for the drama and laughs...but you'd never find me in the crowd.

I just don't think those that do it are there for the laugh factor, cept maybe Borat

That's a good point. I don't think these guys (and girls!) get the credit they deserve for being able to pull off the acrobatics that they do. I'd hesitate to call them "athletes" but they are certainly talented individuals.

Let's just take a bet on how high she bounced.:yeah:

Yup, they are in good shape and all that, but once they go in to the ring, it's all script from there (and no, they don't get hit/land so hard as it seems).

Never understood the popularity, never will.

Actually it's not all scripted. The outcome is scripted, and some events, but the matches aren't actually worked out move by move in advance...that'd leave them no 'wiggle room' for mistakes, injuries, etc.

And of course they don't get hit as hard as it seems. If they did, they'd be dead or crippled.

Weird thing is, while some of the big power moves they do require the other guy's assistance to 'sell', some of the really simple ones are effective and incredibly painful.
