tracking/intercept question
When I am out to sea and my navigator guy says something like "ship bearing 123, closing, long range" and I have that line that is the direction of the ship but not one of those square marks on the map, and I measure with the protractor do i measure the 123 angle from my ship or where that line ends or my best guess of there the ship is in regards to the line and "long range"? I seem to see these lines and unless I fluke out and run right into the ship/convoy I never meet them and they typically see me before I see them. I have spent sometimes over 7 in game days just driving around, seeing lines, trying to find the ships from these lines only to not find the ship and starting over, it becomes very frustrating.
I watched the tutorial about intercepting when there is the square )ghost ship?) on the map but what if there is no square. Hope this makes sense. Thanks. |

8) How to use hydrophone in SH5 ==> Link 22) How to use the 4 bearing method in SH5 (Kuikueg methode - i recomand for all SH5 players that do not know this method to find time to watch this video tutorial) ==> Link this is for a single ship.... if you are speaking about a convoy... than if the sonar say it is long range and is closing try to advance a bit and listen... you can easy observe if the convoy is moving from your left to right or from right to left... when you will have on hydro that the ship is closing and you have short range you have chances to visual spot the convoy and find the data (speed, course, etc) |
You need to watch and see who is making the report.
If it is the watch crew - target is in sight. If it the hydro - target is up to 25km away. If its the radio man - target can be very far away. Tip for radio contact: (sorry to realism players:D) lets say you are in the north atlantic and you receive a radio contact. Think - where is this target going (either west or east) Guess its av speed at 7knots and plot an intercept cource (50/50 chance you go the correct way) As you head to intercept, bring up the stop watch and set TC to 128. Keep an eye on the second hand of the watch. When it stutters (game is loading something) it will be a contact. The game will load a unit when it is 30km away from you. This is good as this is also the range of your hydro. Dive to 25m - go all stop - listen for contact. Now you can use hydro info to get close and attack. |
It is not that I do not want the square icons on the map, it is just that they are not always there. But, I think you have solved my problem anyhow. I have never used the hydrophone thing before (was not sure what it was for). When I saw the lines I just guessed and tried to intercept  . Yes, I am still learning :) . Thanks.
