Campaign: Operation Drumbeat - Mission: U-BOAT BLITZ

Patrol Objectives: Completed
Mission Objectives: Completed

Message Received: From Bdu - Good work X No new objectives at this time X Patrol another area of your choice or return to base X

I am now low on Torpedo's - 2 Forward, 1 Aft. I request another resupply and I am denied. I set course for home base. Two days later, I encounter a German "Dithmarschen Supply Ship". Again, I tell radio operator to request resupply. Again, Bdu refuses my request and the Supply Ship is only 500 meters from my Starboard side. I have no option to Refit my boat.

This is very frustrating, very sad and not very immersive.:-? If I encounter a Resupply Ship anywhere while at sea. I would expect I should be able to Refit my boat in some fashion or another.:yep: Previous SH releases allowed this. It is strange that SH5 does not.:hmmm:

Is this a game Bug?
Is it a known issue?
Can this be fixed?

P.S. After having a very fine dinner onboard the supply vessel, I killed it's Capitan for withholding vital war supplies and sank his ship with Deck Gun because the crew also refused to open cargo holds.:o Looks like I am forced to RTB having no other prospects to follow.:damn: My second mission requires I sink 300,000 tons. That may be several RTB trips.:doh:

Wish we could find a fix. In Open Horizons I also meet several times the milkcow but no options to refit.. very frustrating.

But being denied on resupply I think is not really a bug. Germans had big problems with the resupply as the milkcows and the supply ships were the most hunted ships at sea. I was reading about Drumbeat where Donitz decided to send the IX type subs to US just because they were more fitted for long travel and the resupply for these boats already was a major pita.

289 were killed while serving on the Milk Cows out of an estimated

complement of 530-576 men. 

According to my sources the 10 'Milk Cows'  only went on 35 patrols 

(3,5 per boat), 3 of them were sunk on their  maiden patrol and 

two had only been on patrols for roughly half a month  when 

they were sunk.

There you can also find all the patrol areas and patrol-dates of the ten milk-cows.

Even if it's not entirely realistic I still wish the resupply option would work once in a while, only because it would be really cool to rendezvous with supply ships in the middle of the ocean.

Its working, but not all the time nor campaign. Here is my rendezvous with the supply ship in south Atlantic in the Distant Waters campaign.

Resupply is predetermined, when you select your mission objective, you usually get the patrol objective OF resupply. Thats what happened for me at least...

Aha! I usually don't formally accept missions because you can complete them without doing that, but I will now.

After looking at Zedi's pics below I really want to try that out.
