Saves no longer work
hey guys,
Just added depth charge disturbance mod by TDW last weekend and the fire damage effects by the same today... last weekend the career I had just started wouldn't load, just CTD when it got just past the loading screen. Now last night's patrol is the same... Corrupted saves? Fixes? Trying again tonight, going to save just outside port, quit out, re load ect. as a dry run. Also going to delete all my previous careers. Any help? Was running fine before this, could it be because i added a mod after a save? I've had this issue once before, months ago but it never reappeard. twice in two different careers concerns me though Walruss |
CTD's when loading corrupted saves is a common thing in SH3.
It's not the mods fault, I don't believe, as I and a lot of others are running it just fine. Things to do to avoid CTD's when saving: 1) Don't save within 50km of anything 2) Don't save submerged, only on the surface. 3) Don't change anything during a patrol, only add mods between patrols. Male many many saves during a patrol, like every other dawn or something. I frequently end up with 20-30 saves per patrol. |
Take both mods out and if everything works after that put them back in and start a new career.

Both mods out, no effeect. Brand new career with the mods installed before starting, no effect.
It's just corrupting every save i make as I make them EDIT every save at sea, anyway. in port saves still work. |

Usually in port saves will CTD. |
If you are adding and removing mods through JSGME remember to roll back SH3 Commander beforehand, if you forget you can potentially screw your game. You probably know that already but I just thought I'd mention it just in case.
Sounds like you need to reinstall SH3 and your mods and start from scratch. I'm running TDW's depth charge disturbance mod along with other mods and have had no problems with it so far. |
Certain mods should also only be applied in between patrols. I am not familiar with this mod so I don't know if it applies here. But better be safe than sorry. 'Repairs and additions' should be done while in the subpen. Better not while on patrol.

But regardless, it's normally a bad idea to change any mods mid patrol. |

You may well end up with the choice between playing without the mods or don't play at all if no solution can be found. Try PMing the mods creator for a response. |
I have experienced something similar, having loaded the 2 mods. never had any CTD problems before (except with the auto crew positions which I no longer use).
I thought the problem might be with SH3 Commander though and so I ahve taken to only loading the game using SH3 Commander at the beginning of each patrol and not using it to load mid-patrol saves as i used to. I no longer get the CTD at the end f the loading screen now. Still not sure if it is the mods or SH3 Commander, and although my OCD is going mad I can live with my work-around. :DL LJ |
Game crashes when loading career!

If by "3/4 through a second" convoy you mean you were in the midst of a convoy attack when you saved the game, then it's possible your save won't load because it was made when there were too many other units in close proximity to your boat and too much was going on to be successfully saved and recreated without data being corrupted or some other problem cropping up. Saving and reloading in a situation like that requires the game to remember and recreate a LOT of stuff at a moment in (game) time that already requires a great deal from your system resources just to play through it.
Corrupted and/or unusable savegames are a known bug with SH3 that has never been resolved; there are no guarantees, but generally the best way to avoid them is to save only when surfaced and out of range of land and/or any other units (ships, planes, etc.). |
I have exactly the same problem. :(
Trying a full reinstall. Hopefully it helps. |
