NATO will take lead in Lybia
According to the Turkish minister Ahmet Davutoglu NATO will take the lead in Lybia. Turkey was, as NATO partner, blocking intervention for NATO. The agreemant should have been reached in a phone call between USA, French and Turkisch reps.
It is not yet confirmed by NATO itself. If that will happen it will show things go, 3 countries who arrange the things :S |
the Turks were blocking a leading role for NATO, becaysdue they wanted a lading role being perceioved for themselves, they also were pissed that the French did not care for them. Noiw Tuzkrwey makes it appear as if they were the ones who reached the agreement over NATO.
Germany however denies until this minute that there is such an agreement. And Obama never wanted a leading role for the US at all. Sarkozistan wants to shine in glory by appealing to what a commentator called the Bonapartian reflex of the French (it is similiar to the American reflex, just with a foreign accent). And they do not trust the Turks. Berlusconistan saw a leaked information from the inner circle around the Duc... I mean the Big Boss at the top of the heap, saying that Big Boss wants to shine by enforcing a honiurable retreat option for Gaddafi, and that he shall not be harmed and persecuted at all. Well, two buddies amongst themselbes. Germany still explains why leaving the others alopne and telling the world how bad it all is, is a sing of hoiw storngly Germany is commited to the cause and supports the others. It'S forces in the Med are in full retreat from committment. The Brits try to hide the costs of the oiperation from their people. Alliance? Who needs enemies with Allies like this? Leave the leadership to the French, shall they take care of managing it. Kick the Turks out of NATO, ban Berlusconi and Germany from future consultations. Give CAS to the rebels as long as it is not clear that their victory is not in the interest of European energy concerns regarding the Russian influence in Lybia, which means due to the uncertainty over the rebels there is a chance we cannot rule out that the rebels will be a benefit for Europe, if they win. And Gaddafi and his poisenous clan: arrest him and have The Hague sentence him for life, else find and kill them, if they cannot be arrested. He already was a known mass murderer, fraudster, liar, thief to his people and terrorist before, now we learned he also is a war criminal, having given order to shoot-for kill civilians without discrimination. And Berlusconi? A Europe-wide police warrant, and total diplomatic boycott. |
But will the US still be involved? Not being the lead is great, but I want no US involvement. Europe and Africa can handle this.

Its pathetic, the NATO will only lead the no-fly zone. Meaning they will not attack ground targets. Personally i think they will only fly above international waters. They just proved the organization is to big, slow and incompetent.
I dont see any reason why the USA would not participate. The last few wars for a regime change were started by the us and are still in progress. This is the opportune moment to help a movement initiated by locals. It will be the French who will benefit from it for sure with the new oil contracts. And they had to, since the independence of Algeria came with oil contracts for France which will expire within 1 and 2 years. France does not have any natural energy source (only nucliar....) It will be Lybia who will help the France with this :) Ghehe, my moment of the day: Quote:

Gonna take another week here for the cabinet to even decide on allowing the 4 F-16s we have there to drop ordnance or not. And then NATO still has to make up their mind.
There'll be noone left alive to fight for by the time they make up their bloody mind. :-? |
That France will do well out of this is probably true...but there is a lot of unfinished vbusiness out there and the potential of having to pay a high price if planes and aircrew are lost.

Nato is going to lead...
Uhm - you do all realize that this move is nothing but a pr move for the average US citizen, right? I mean - seriously - who leads nato? SACEUR leads Nato - and that post is always held by an American. Not bragging - just fact. The Canadian Admiral in charge answers to SACEUR. Not to mention the #1 contributor to NATO? The US. The second and third? Britain and France. If you add up the contribution of Britain and France together, multiply it by 2 - you get the same amount that the US does. Nato leading this means the US is leading this - whether anyone likes it or not. I am NOT belittling the contributions of others - please understand that. But for the President of the US to claim that the US is no longer leading the way, but that NATO is - is nothing more than a PR stunt to keep the civilians at home happy. Its political BS. |
One small point....if it goes t!ts up, NATO will be made to look the fool and not the US...similarly if NATO fail to control the situation the US will get to lead the cavalry charge at the head of the relief column.
A win-win situation for the US possibly? |
Transfering responsibility for the mission in Libya from an American general (Carter Ham, commander of U.S. Africa Command) to an American admiral (James Stavridis, Supreme Allied Commander-Europe).
What has changed? |
The amount of paperwork?
