I need info for this pic

Hi there,

I do not know if this is the correct section of the forum but here it goes,

I'm using the Electronic Mobo on the iPhone/iPad and I'm still struggling to understand the concept as to what is the information it presents to the user and how it can help me intercepting convoys etc...

For some is pretty obvious but for me if you say here what you think might clear things for me.

Thanks!!

Any comment is welcome.

TLAM Strike 03-17-11 03:03 PM

Looks like its showing at the top the target's Course, Speed, Range and Bearing. Towards the bottom it shows the targets Closest Point Of Approach with Bearing, Range and Time of it. and at the bottom it shows Own Ship Course and Speed

The thing is TLAM, the section in yellow is what intrigues me...

CPA B 023 10.0K 01:38

Closest point of approach is Bearing 023 at 10kyards and will take 01hr:38min. Ok. But I still can't manage to understand how to proceed with that info. Playing with the program I noticed that the yellow section is the info given from the yellow dashed line. So with the picture how would I proceed correctly for a torpedo approach? Maintain hdg of 050 with 6 kts until when? Bearing 023 from where?
:hmmm:

I don't use Mobo, but from what you have shown, the situation is not favorable.

It looks like the dashed line is your course and where it bends is where you will be at the closest point of approach. Unless you can make a torpedo attack from 10,000yd you will be out of luck. The only way to improve the approach here is to increase speed (surface). Changing course will not help much as you are already within 3 deg. of a normal approach course.
