Shot down a plane with my deck gun!!!

I'll be darn!! I was out of AA ammo because I'm in the Mediterranean and there are aircrafts all over so was going back to base and this aircraft didnt stop harrasing me so I gave my deck gun a try and guess what...

Just one more realistic thing in SH5.

I wouldn't say hitting a plane with the 8.8cm is unrealistic. Common? Absolutely not.

But its as simple as the pilot flying low enough or in a straight line long enough for the deck gunner to get a lucky shot off. I bet you couldn't do it again if you tried. If you could, THAT would be unrealistic in relying on the deck gun as an AA platform.

I'm sure stranger shots have occurred. Remember, the Red Baron was killed by a rifleman on the ground that took a random shot at his plane.

Shame you didn't have FRAPS recording. :yep:

Yeah, wish i could have recorded it. It was a nice long shot too when it was climbing up after a run at the boat.

Well tanks did fire with thier main gun occassionally at planes.........so who would know?

same thing happened to me, but I had auto deck gun mod on and for some reason my deck gunner started firing at a b24.......wierd..........

The 88mm naval deck gun was not capable of anti-aircraft fire since its maximum elevation was only 30 degrees.

An excellent hit was landed by U-242 on 10 Oct, 1944 when it shot down a Russian aircraft with her 8,8cm deck gun!
