Strange White Plume of Smoke

I was in great position to get into this convoy. I was at 300 feet, approaching at about 35 degrees, and was about 5 minutes from actually turning into the main row at a bearing of zero. I had not been pinged yet, and by my sonar reports had not been detected. I saved the game. Upon reloading, I immediately heard some explosion overhead, when I took ext. cam view there was a white plume of smoke in the spot where my sub was. Baffled. Any clues?

Confiscate the Lucky Strikes when you go to battle stations?

Common bug in the game. Nothing to worry about as they don't detect it and there's no harm to you.

Just a bit annoying is all.

It was a bit worrisome

Thanks for that, I thought that the IJN was cheating, marking my spot with a smoke canister.... but how can a smoke canister work at sea... it was driving me nuts...

Cheers:salute:

Yep, just a bug on reload. In reality, planes would drop dye or smoke markers on your position, but not in game.

I thought I sent some files to people that did the dye and smoke?
I know I have them.
:hmmm:

Happened to me, thought my engines had caught fire.

I had this happen not too long ago. Except that the plume of smoke was black. It was the remnants of two sampans I had sunk the previous session, they had gone down but left the common fire and smoke plume. The problem was they kept coming back. I tried to TC away from them and every time the last one died a new one would pop up right behind the boat. I tried reloading again and again; I also had ship damage, 15% hull damage and the water spraying out various places inside. When I loaded the file the problem would just come back. I can't remember what I had to do to get rid of it but it turned out to be a pretty serious problem. I think I had to reinstall to get rid of it. I am sure it was a result of saving too soon after sinking the two sampans. The fire was still on the water when I saved. Hope yours is not as serious.
