Having problems with diving

Last time I tried diving, enemy ships couldn't spot me and werent close enough. I dove and next thing I know it says I lost the game. Did I crash into the bottom? It didnt say I was in shallow water.

I am afraid of diving because of this and constantly stay at periscope depth rather than going any lower, also because I can not see anything at all.

Can someone please explain the dive mechanics so I can use a crash dive or regular dive? I haven't been depth charged once because I stick to periscope surface so Generally I get shelled to death rather than try and avoid depth charges. I would like to feel what its like to dodge depth charges, I think it would add a lot of fun to the game.

BTW this is my first sub sim, I understand the game is full of bugs, but I still find it fun.

If you dove deeper than what your sub can handle then the pressure crushes the sub killing you. Did you get a chance to see what depth you were at before game ended? :)

You can use depth under keel command to ping the bottom and get a reading of how deep it is.

No thats not it at all.

Ok I can figure out how to dive and dive deeper, I can not figure out how to maintain the current depth though outside of periscope depth and surface.

Are you using any mods ?

Install this keep depth fix
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=179746

Press Ctrl key on the keyboard to bring up the advanced control features . Under ttis is the button to get depth . So find depth , dive or crash dive , then hit Ctrl key and click the curser on what depth you want to go on the depth gauge . Any other questions , just ask .

If you use the maga mod "MO", try the "basic" tutorial at the main menu.

If you are using "TDW UIs", get the same tutorial here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=177725

My only issue with diving is that just pressing the "dive" button does'nt always produce a dive, hell sometimes i have to hit "Crash dive" 3 times before antthing happens!

But worst of all is not having a button to level all planes....you have to quickly select a depth from the depth gauge instead....most annoying when in a panic situation!

I have to admit, voice recognition is something i've never used and know nothing about! it all sounds really mad to me ans i find it hard to belive it works well.

How does it work? what software do you need...i guess a mic is needed aswell?

you find all the informations here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...164926&page=18

just down the mod (i supouse you are using an os in english) and before install the mod do this:

1) search in the mod this fille and delet it menu_1024_768.ini (if you are using tdw uis)
2) go to data\Scripts\Menu\Page Speech Recognition.py and edit this file with notepad
search for this line:
speech.Confidence =
and replace with speech.Confidence = 0.50

save

3) follow the steps described here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...&postcount=221
4) enable the mod

you can see what commands you can use here:
http://s3d.skwas.com/redist/shspeech_commands.xml

it is working well (only a few commands i have some problems but not manny)

I did install voice commands, but had to uninstall as the Mrs got fed up with me screaming "ALAAAAAARRRRRRMMMM" at the top of my voice at 3am when a plane gets spotted.

Thanks for the info....

Im just concerned that my partner will take offence when she hears me shouting "Man the deck gun", though she will probably perk up when i call "prepare for a dive"....she gets annoyed when i "blow balast" evey night as it is.
