The Socialist Party of Texas (SPTX) salutes you, comrades in Egypt!:

http://www.socialistpartyoftx.org/20...ir-square.html

"...We send greetings to the working people of Egypt on the day of their
victorious struggle to depose the dictator Hosni Mubarak. Their
grassroots movement provides definitive proof to the world that radical
political activity can change the course of history.

...We are inspired by the example provided by this mass revolt of
the Egyptian people...

...As socialists located in the US, we pledge to continue to do our part in the
international struggle for socialism. We see our own political activity
as a part of the larger international movement for jobs, peace and
freedom. As a part of a Socialism for the 21st Century! ...

in Texas, Yihaa!

August, you are a smart guy, yet I never understood why you and some other members on these fine forums cannot distinguish between socialism, communism and for example, stalinism. I realise that you were brought up in the context of the cold war and the bad commie and that McCarthy did something every other ideology has dreamt of, that is, convince not only the current, but future generations that what you say is the truth, is the truth, no questions asked. Now, am I not generalising this on all Americans and I know some who are quite European left-wing, yet I still cannot wrap my head around this stubborn resistance.

Yes, what was done in the name of socialism is despicable and like all ideologies, it can and will be used to promote the interests of a tiny elite, but this is what's important, capitalism is just as prone to corruption and power grabbing as socialism and can just as well limit human right as any Marxist-Leninist regime can. We, if we truly follow the virtues of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity, must fight all who wish to limit them, be it from the left or the right.

So I think you mean nationalist socialism, where assets are produced to the needs of the country such as a country like Venezuela. Not national socialism, which is Nazism, which is fascism not socialism.

Whenever someone on the internet says you're a smart guy it's usually followed by a lengthy diatrabe about how stupid you are. :DL

Seriously, no offense to you, but the way I see it Socialism is just a happy face disguise for Communism until it has cemented it's hold on power enough to turn into full Stalinism. I'd much rather have two parties eternally gridlocked in political battle than one party efficiently eliminating my right to self determination.

Now that you have pointed it out, it did sound pretentious and I do apologise. While I cannot completely agree with you (just look at European socialist or social-democratic parties and how many of them embrace and actively promote democracy (let's just leave immigration, identity and Muslims out of the discussion for now, lest we attract you know who :03:)), I take into account your specific point of view. That only thing I wanted to point out for the umpteenth time is that you should be wary of putting everything in the same basket and that the discussion should be more about human rights (another long discussion, which is better left alone for the clarity of this thread) than about ideology and the realisation that not everything on the left is glorious and that not everything on the right ensures the survival of human liberties.

That is all.
