Whoops. Sounds like someone crossed a line they shouldn't have. :)

If you stand out in public, don't expect privacy.

Hmm.. few things jump to mind when seeing this.

1: Why the hell are you mourning someone at IHOP?

2: Methinks if you live in a nation with no privacy, or with constant new coverage of everything, you should be prepared for this if you're outside.

3: Methinks if you live in a nation with constant new feeds (see above) then you shouldn't make yourself look like a jackass. (see girl in green, guy in blue, etc, etc).

What the hell is wrong with people? One person died in this kerfuffle? That's ridiculous.

let me help clear this up.

a day or two earlier, two men got into a fight inside the IHOP... one man ended up pulling a gun and shooting the other, he died.

the next day (day of this video) the mourners gathered to hold some sort of memorial... the news showed up - no doubt to cast light on what had happened - and the mourners got upset about it and got into a minor scuffle with the news crew (who was on public property - had every right to be there - and legally speaking was assaulted)... nobody died during this scuffle.

in the town where i live, large groups of people congregate in the IHOP at 1:00 and 2:00 in the morning looking to eat an early breakfast after a night of bar hopping and clubbing and God knows what else... one of my good friends who is a cop said that during his 13 years with the police department, IHOP is one place he is called to where he expects to get shot at. (and has been)

largely due to the inebriated patronage, the large crowds and the type of people who are prone to "club hop" until the wee hours do such things occur.

its unfortunate that a man died in a shooting... but if his mouth was anywhere near the size of his friends mouths, i can fully understand why someone would take to shooting at him. Just look at the type of the people gathered in the video and you will have your answer... these types of people cannot get along with anyone in society.

I don't condone the violence aginst the crew, but these reporters don't seem to be very street smart. Especially in an environment like this, with emotions boiling, it would have been smarter to step back and not putting the camera into their faces.

I had been working as a part of a camera crew, luckily only seldom for the news, but nonetheless often in the public and in difficult situations. I've worked in environments where robbing us of our equipment would mean more money for those people than they earn in 10 years. Never anything like this happened, the only near-physical confrontation I've had was with some yuppie assclowns who showed their arrogance.
The key is to respect the people you film and work with. This and some common sense helps to avoid situations like this.

Those people are acting like a bunch of wild animals. Small wonder one of them got shot.

Absolutely. :haha: A little respect can go a long way toward not getting one's ass kicked up one side and down the other. But cross the line and it's gonna leave an indelible mark. :yep:
